Given

Cuellar Dunne Clark Young

Milner Reo Coker Delph

Albrighton Bent N'Zogbia

Budget wise might be more realistic. Still think it would be pretty handy mind.

                    NRC    Delph

   Albrighton       Milner      N'Zogbia

I normally stick to the rule that you shouldn't go back but in Milner's case i'd make an exception. Simply better than Barry, Young, Downing, anyone we've had in midfield for donkey's years. Whatever people say about our decline last season, whether pointing the blame at the management or players, a lot of it was due to the fact we'd lost Milner and didn't replace him with anyone in the same class.

Wouldn't mind us being in for this guy either:

Oussama Assaidi (Heerenveen) 9 Goals 12 Assists last year.

We do not need a new right back.  Luke Young has a year left on his contract.  Not sure why people are suddenly signing Hutton or playing Lichaj or Cuellar at right back.  I am more concerned if Warnock and Ireland turn out to be as useless as last season.  We are desperately short of quality and apparently have no money!!  We'll see.

Well beings as Luke Young is a better left back than he is right back, we'll be ok!

I don't in a million years belive we will sign N'zogbia however if Downing does go I expect Shaun Wright-Phillips sign as a replacement for only a few million. Probably with Nedum Onuoha and maybe even Adam Johnson. This all depends on the wage demands but I would hope Johnson and Wright-Philips would command 30-40 grand a week with a juice pay-off from Man City and Onuoha 20-30 grand. With all of them costing us only 15-18 millions Maximum for the lot which would be good buisness if we sold Downing for the same money i.e 18 million

I do also expect us to sign Foster in the next few days for around 9-12 million with the condition that they drop the legal proceedings against us. Apart from those 4 signings I expect us bring in some young unknown talent from within Europe unless something really special comes about like Daniel Sturridge or James Milner becomes avaliable

I'll eat my hat if we spend 12m on a goalkeeper.

I hope we sign Foster, because he's a good long term investment. However we need to show a lot this summer.

Milner would be fantastic but I will believe it when he is ITSOTP at Bodymoor!

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/EXCLUSIVE-Aston-Villa-plotting-shock-bid-to-bring-back-James-Milner-from-Manchester-City-article752433.html

Im sorry if im getting carried away but i think this would be the best possible thing AM could do........ id actually walk down to villa park and shake his hand for doing it

Yes please.

As others have said though, it's unlikely. Certainly on a permanent deal anyroad.

A lot has changed since he was here (Christ, and it's only been 12 months). We're no longer viewed as one of the upwardly mobile sides looking to gatecrash the top 4. Indeed, odds are probably shorter on us to go down now.

That said -and as I mentioned a few pages back- there might be a scenario towards the end of the window where a number of players at the CL sides and Tottingham face the prospect of little> no game time. Maybe not even making the 25 in some cases. In that eventuality -and if Citeh block moves to potential rivals as you expect they might- players like Milner might be more receptive to a loan deal.

Why on earth would Milner take a big pay cut to come back here? I doubt he'd do that if we were the villa of a couple of years ago but we're patently not.

True, but with more players possubly on the way to Citeh, a lot of the original buys will be bench-warming Milner included. He's broke into the England team and he may risk being over looked if he's not playing. Also, I may be wrong, but aren't Citeh paying a big chunk of Bellamy's wages at Cardiff perhaps we could do something similar winky.
