Have just watched the interview on AVTV and when asked a similar question, replies that 'if it was for the benefit of Aston Villa then why not?' (not an exact quote)

Nigel to return ? Said before he left he is average at best. Where is Juventus , Milan and a "stream of CL teams" (quote from his agent) ? Gary Gardner, Delphi, Barton is going forward. Nigel is history .........

I'm with Walters Warriors on this.  Reo Coker isn't a terrible player but it would be a big fat meh from me if I had to watch a midfield containing him and (regularly) Petrov.  Anybody else enough of pedestrian journeymen struggling to pass a ball?  Bannan, Albrighton, a new dynamic Milner-style player (Delph?) and Downing please.

Unfortunately spurs also gave modric a 6 year contract. We never seem to offer more than 4. Short sighted.

Financial fair play mentioned in both interviews yesterday. Also mentioned that we have some really good centre halves at the club when talk sport asked. I reckon we might get 3-4 players in now having heard him in both interviews. Maybe net spend of 10 million after the young money. I would bet on:

Given 2m
Hutton 4m
NZogbia 10m
Adam 10m
Reo Coker - free

Total - 26m

Out

Young - 17m
Heskey - 500k

Then working with Ireland, Warnock, Dunne etc. Get Dunne and Cuellar playing well there is not a massive need at the back in fairness. I think the wage bill will be the biggest thing now by the sign of it as that is the biggest expense. Any estimates on what we have shed off that bill?

The Mirror is also talking about NRC coming back, could be good for all parties.

New Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has sounded out Nigel Reo-Coker about making a shock return to Villa Park after the 27-year-old midfielder was released by the club at the end of last season. Full story: Daily Mirror

I'd welcome him back, as long as he's not asking for massive wages.

I agree. Don't rate him at all. He would fine as a squad player to fill in occasionally but that isn't what he wants. No way for me he should be in our starting line up if we are aspiring to anything higher than about 10th...if ever there was a 'Bolton Type Player' in our team, then he is it...

Agreed.

But if we're to move forward he should be a squad player only, so the wages need to reflect that, which they won't, so it's probably a non-starter.

I never rated NRC, but under GH he seemed to improve his passing & composure & he's worthy of a squad place.

I just think he thinks he's better than he actually is.

You might be right, but on the Talkshite interview he was on about speaking to a couple (Ash and Downing) in the next few days and then the rest when pre-season starts.  What that says to me is that he'll try and sort out the two speculated big departures ASAP, then cast his eye over the rest of the squad in training.  So I'd expect a keeper and Ash replacement in early, as they are obviously needed, and then everything else once he's decided who he wants to keep/get rid of.

I really want Barton.

I think it's just you & I on that train. Luckily, it's the right train. Brilliant player and would improve us.

I am on that train too.

I got off it when I considered how having one eye might effect Gary Gardner's development.

One player from the lower leagues we should snap up is an 18year old at Tranmere called Dale Jennings. I watched him a number of times at Prenton Park last season and he was outstanding everytime.
Great potential and could be nurtured into the club.

That the lad who scored that wonder goal against Plymouth?
