If he's playing as the lone striker he shouldn't need to have to go looking for it as it will be the role of others, he sticks the ball in the net and will do what ever style we play. The point is will he be happy playing in a defensive style where every miss might be more highlighted.

I'll give it till Xmas before we start seeing stories about him reviewing his career options and he'll be gone in 12 months.
Bent definitely shouldn't have to go looking for the ball but if all his team-mates are behind it, his best chance of getting a touch is by dropping deep.

He doesn't want to play with his back to goal waiting for the ball to come into his feet but that's what lone strikers in defensive systems often end up doing.

Downing is a very talented player but a great big fanny, I'd like us to keep him but I suspect I'm in a minority amongst my mates, as a supporter base we've always seemed to value endeavour above other attributes.

And I think the reason we were willing to pay big was because his style is a perfect fit for the Liverpool pass-and-move. Compared to Sunderland and England under-21s, there's a good chance he'll be spoilt playing with a fast-moving ball and plenty of options around him.
Yeah, spending £35m on Andy Carroll just screams out fast-moving passing to feet.

I wouldn't get carried away thinking we're going to be defensive next season Redman. It wont wash with us for starters and the board/management know it.
We may not be reknowned for samba football but we dont tolerate stodgy attritional football for long either.
Bent will get plenty of chance next season and will score goals galore because you'd have to be a compete knob to ignore the fact that Bent is our main threat and not to plan around this.

Whatever faults he has, McLeish certainly isnt stupid.

That's a conundrum nobody knows the answer to just yet but there's no doubt Liverpool have returned to pass-and-move under Kenny.

I don't think you necessarily will be defensive and Bent is the single biggest reason why you shouldn't be.

It'll be interesting to see what Eck does because he has been typecast a bit as a conservative manager and that's something he'll probably have to change.

I think he'll fall flat on his arse if he tries to play an attractive more attacking game. If he was going to turn into Guardiola he would have by now.

mebbe, but Bent worries me. If Mcliesh plays to type then Bent could struggle, if he goes attacking, well we could get have a similar defensive record as last season as its not likely he's going to bring in possession footballers

Can I say in slight defence of Henderson (don't know why frankly) he has been playing for that complete twat Pearce who has as much tactical ability as a bag of wotsits. Whilst Henderson looked completely shit, I have no idea what he was asked to do (I'm pretty sure he didn't either). Still don't think he's worth 16-20m though (or pence on that showing).

story in the Daily Mail saying we might offer Nigel a chance to come back. I wouldn't be against it, but I thought he'd be looking forward to playing CL football by now. Might want a little word with his gobby agent.

Gosh, I'd like to hang on to him.

For the club because he's a good player and I like watching him...oh for goodness sake.

One player from the lower leagues we should snap up is an 18year old at Tranmere called Dale Jennings. I watched him a number of times at Prenton Park last season and he was outstanding everytime.
Great potential and could be nurtured into the club.

What position does this guy play?

I hope we have got our eye on a few of these youngsters that are playing in the lower leagues.  Obviously not all the signings will come off but I'd guess if we signed say, Wickham (8m), Chamberlain (6m) and Clyne (2m) one of them would come good and cover the costs of the others.

Jennings looks to be on his way to Bayern.

Talented kid but a bit of a problem child so I'm told.

The Mirror is also talking about NRC coming back, could be good for all parties.
