Hutton's good going fwds but not great defensively. Could do worse. Did cost £9m though, not sure what we'd get him for. Would rather walker but that may not be possible.

Foster, Hutton, dann and someone like Figueroa would cost about £30m though. That'd be practically all of the young and downing money without replacing either. I reckon we may need to cut our cloth and not sure we could afford big money keeper and centre back signings.

Hutton's a good player. If Spurs won't sell Walker, Hutton would be a good shout.

A goalkeeper signing is a priority. If we don't go for Foster, I wonder if Craig Gordon would be an option for McLeish..

Depends if McLeish can stop him either wimping out of tackles or diving in and committing stupid fouls thus free kicks around the box. If he can, then Warnock is as good as we could get. If he can't then get shut.

If AM can bring Warnock, Ireland, Dunne, and to a lesser extent Collins, Gabby. and Young(L) back on board he has gone a long way towards justifying his appointment. In fact could that be part of the thinking of Randy, and in fact he has made a rather subtle choice for manager. Whilst perhaps wanting to continue along the Houllier route of more technical and sophisticated  football, as probably most fans did,  he has decided to take a more pragmatic path. As Chairman and owner of the newly formed Austerity Villa, Randy has decided on the more cost effective solution of fitting the manager to the team rather than the team to the manager, and thereby saving himself £20/£30m for new players. Those players alienated by Houlliers regime and methods (mainly the "MON type" players) now have an opportunity to return to the fold, without losing face, citing a return to proper footall and training (or lack of training).

If Modric ends up at Chelsea I wonder if that frees up Benayoun

Walkers performances for the U21s may have put paid to any little chance we had of getting him permanently.

I hope he does go to either Chelsea and Man United.

I then look forward to how Spurs are labelled by the media for selling one of their best players.

Statement by Club Chairman, Daniel Levy
18 June 2011

"I wish to make it absolutely clear, as I have said previously, that none of our key players will be sold this summer. We are building a team for the future to consistently play at the highest level and retaining quality players is crucial to that.

"In respect of Luka Modric, we are not prepared to sell, at any price, to Chelsea Football Club or any other club.

"We made our stance on this issue abundantly clear in writing to Chelsea. They chose to ignore it and then subsequently made the offer public.

"For the avoidance of any doubt, let me reiterate that we shall not enter into any negotiations whatsoever, with any Club, regarding Luka.

"We now consider this matter closed."

A 'come and get him' statement if I've ever read one.
