Wasn't Mcallister saying we didn't need major surgery and just 2 or 3 players? That's either going to be untrue, or a worrying sign. I'm a bit concerned our new strategy is to play many more of the youngsters. It's no coincidence our form was much more stable with as many experienced players in the side as possible, despite the rhetoric.

I think it largely depends on who's going.  If Dunne and Collins have learnt their lesson and are willing to knuckle down, returning to the form of 09/10, then we don;t need any CBs.  Still, other leavings aside I think it's 4 players (keeper, DCM and 2 fullbacks) minimum anyway.

Yes, but in all fairness, he is a fucking idiot.

And new wide player I would have thought, assuming AY goes. Otherwise we'd only have Downing and Albrighton who could play wide midfield.

Plus, we're either going to play 4-3-3 - in which case we need a creative goalscoring central midfielder I think - or some variation of 4-4-1-1, in which case we need a second striker. That potentially could be the same player I guess.

As I said, that 4 was ignoring anyone else leaving.  Ash will also need replacing most likely, but if we get the right player he could come into the equation for the wide spots and that attacking midfielder/2nd striker.

Whilst we're canvassing opinions I 'd like to see this guy roped into the squad with a stake in the success of the Villa. I gather he's not a total mallet but maybe we still need a marquee signing this summer...

Please , please don't go and resurrect the Marquee threads ....

Reo-Cocker has been released:-

http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2368005,00.html

I'm a little suprised, maybe he wanted too much money. If the list of the players leaving has been released this must mean GH will be back pretty soon.

Possibly.

It could also mean he was asking for too much money and Randy would have said no whoever was in charge, so we just let him walk?
from what i hear, off the back of a bit of form this season, he was asking for money that would make 'cash city' blush!

(slight exaggeration, but you get the idea)...

if he had been more reasonable with his requests, he would still be a villa player...

I know Downing was considered our best player last season.....but really that shows how low we had sunk, Ashley Young was 'somewhere else' for most of it too.Do we have another season of our supposed best putting their interests before the club's?

If so I think that if some team offers 30+ million then we should be prepared to say good riddance to both of them and start anew.

It's not as if we a realistic top 4 bet are we?

I would rather start with some of our own young ones and some hungry talent rather than uncommitted fancy dans.

impressive - how did you do that? :)

Honestly no attempt to float more 'marquee threads', whatever they were!  Put the post down to lack of resistance to puns that floated into my mind after prolonged insomnia led to prolonged H&V surfing at silly o'clock this morning.  I came across the references to the goalie earlier on this thread and, well, there you go.

I was going for a woggle reference as well but couldn't get there.

I'm curious.  Think a little trawl through the site in search of marquees could be what this rainy saturday morning is calling for.  Better than listening to the MU/Barc love-in on the radio anyway, but then anything is better than that.

Why is everyone seemingly so certain we're getting Wendt?

I'd take him though, as I would Larsson and Bendtner.

Aswell as N'Zogbia, Samba, Barton, Forfana and Foster.

It's a no from me for Larsson, Bendtner and Samba.

The rest though I'd take (although I would prefer Robinson to Foster, I wouldn't be upset if we signed him).
