Beat me to it wozwebs. For the money it will be a really good transfer and a player the fans in general will get behind. Score a few crackers too, which will be nice.

Hitzlsperger? I could tolerate it if he is on £20,000-a-week or less and accepts being a squad player. Otherwise, I would have to be convinced.

Anyone suggesting Barton wants their heads looking at.

What's the Mail's success ratio like when it comes to transfers? Haven't seen the Hitz link mentioned anywhere else.

People would take Corluka and Hutton over one of our best players this season? Walker has been superb ever since he joined.

Really?  I think he is a liability and has  been piss poor for the most part.  Caught out of position far to often at the back and with a terrible cross completion ratio going forward.   Ok he can run, so what, that's not good enough.   I hope we don't sign him.
What on earth...

He's been the standout... loads of people on here want him us to sign him. He's really good offensively and defensively, flies up and down the wing, good at tackling - especially at last-ditch tackling and put his body on the line for the team.

He's the complete right-back.

Walker has been superb. Ye ok a couple of times been out of position. But he is just going to get better and better and i think we should make a massive effort to sign him .....

Walker would be a great signing. Unfortunately he looks to be at a higher level than any of our own youngsters at this point in time. I'd pay up to £8m for him.

From todays Express

Quote
Relegated West Ham are set to slash their wage bill further by selling Thomas Hitzlsperger back to Villa, where he began his career in English football a decade ago.

Now West Ham are preparing for life in the Championship and Hitzlsperger, who has 52 caps for Germany, is poised to rejoin Villa in a cut-price deal, for about £500,000. He initially signed for Villa from Bayern Munich in 2000 and made more than 100 appearances before returning to Germany with Stuttgart.

at half a million its not a bad deal. gives us options though i'm not sure where he'd fit in the current formation. Hopefully that means GH is changing it.

I would pay 10-12 for Walker. He is a tremendous player.

Lets not get carried away now. He looks a great player but 10-12m? He's not 21 till saturday and like a lot of youth players his form have covered the full spectrum this season. I'd be more than happy to sign him but he's not the finished article yet and IF 'Arry is willing to sell him i'd say a fee around 5-6m is sensible probably with add-ons if he continues to develop in the right direction.

Worrying Downing quotes from Matt Kendrick on Twitter.

"Worrying Downing quotes emerging: "I am 26 and at a major crossroads in my career so I won't be committing to a new deal at the moment.""

Walker is a tremendous athlete and catches the eye because of his pace and eagerness to get forward. I'd love us to sign him but he's got a hell of a lot to learn. His decision making is suspect at the moment which may be down to his age and lack of experience. It's only his pace that gets him out of trouble of his own doing sometimes. I can understand why Walker wasn't getting game time at Spurs because at the higher level they were at last season he would get found out.

If Spurs won't sell, I'd happily take Hutton.

I'd really like us to get a good exciting signing early in the close season, because I'm feeling a little pessimistic about this summer.  I think we'll do really well to be as strong squad-wise next year as we were this.

I'm actually very optimistic about this summer. I really believe Randy will not want a repeat of last season and will give the manager, whoever it is, significant funds. If Villa are serious about keeping Ash, they'll have to bring in some quality players to at least give him food for thought before leaving.

I hope that we dont spend all summer trying to persuade Ashley Young to stay, tell him that if he wants to stay then give him a date to decide by.

I would have thought by now, we would have been informed by the club who was being released by the club, or have Salifou and Osbourne etc... been offered new contracts!!!
