I'm sure I read last week that in Jan we were trying to sign Bridge on his full 80/85k per week wages but he chose West Ham because he wanted to be in the capital.

Houllier clearly rates him, maybe he'll suit our attacking fullback system 'cos McGrath knows he can't defend.

If it happens then there are two positives from this:

1) The manager is getting his #1 target.
2) He's doing his business early.

I'll ignore the negatives for now.

Just been on SSN that we are favourites for Wayne Bridge..... ???

I'm probably in the minority here, but I wouldn't be totally opposed to this.

I'd rather keep Warnock and make him captain than sign Bridge, he's been truly awful this season!

I wouldn't want Bridge either.  I work with a Man City fan and he was laughing at me this morning on the fact that Vill ahave been linked to him!  Not going to be to impressed if we get him.

I think we have more pressing business that a left back, like trying get Dunne out of the door, pushed by Beye, Pires, Heskey, Marshall and Bradley

I just can't believe the Wayne Bridge rumours but if true it's worrying on 2 levels.

1) That we may be contemplating signing him

2) That it might mean that GH is satying on as Manager.

If Wayne Bridge is Houllier's No.1 left-back target, we're in a whole heap of trouble. He's going downhill fast, is Bridge. I'd rather we played Clark or Baker there next season.

I think Bridge is a player I used to rate, but has lost his way after a couple of wrogn moves (Chelsea and not playing, same at Man City and then West Ham).  I think in the right environment he could get back to the player he was at Southampton, which was a good leftback.

Probably???? Grief, he is awful, I used to play left back to a decent standard (in the same team as Terry Connor, now of the Wolves coaching staff but at the time on Leeds books as a junior) and I would be better than Bridge. Certainly then and probably now (and I'm 49 by the way)!

But would it better to sort out Warnock than buying Bridge and hoping we can get the best out of him. Just seems a waste of money if (I know, a big IF) we can get Warnock back to his best as i think he is a better player than Bridge.

Not sure why people are labelling various keepers as unreliable and then suggesting we sign Al-Habsi. The man is inconsistency personified, sometimes brilliant yes, but he had zero command of his area and persists at diving at crosses with his feet. I'd be shitting myself whenever the ball went near our goal.

I wouldn't argue with that.

Just to point out I'm not sayign we SHOULD sign Bridge - it'd be a gamble that he'd recapture his best form - just that it's not the complete non-starter others think it is.  IMO, anyway.
