what do people think will be new left back for next season
If a new manager comes in, Wipes the slate clean i wouldn't be surprised Warnock be back into contention.

You know, the more I think about this the more I reckon it might be worth a shot.  Up until his injury he was looking quite good and we then rushed him back for the cup final, which was a mistake, and he struggled to the end of the season.  His card was marked as soon as Gezza walked through the door, but with a change of manager we might see a return to his early Villa form, which would save us some money to be spent elsewhere.

I actually EXPECT him to go, but if he stays we should try to get some use out of him!

He was dreadful before Houllier came in. Whilst Houllier and him having a troubled relationship won't have helped things I think much of the issue is more with the fact that he is a pretty dreadful footballer. I'd really rather we didn't have a defender who dived in so much and has the positional sense of something with absolutely none. He had a few months to get his form back over the summer and was no better under MacDonald.

I see we're linked with Sol Bamba in the paper today. He's your typical inconsistent defender. A bit like Richard Dunne but he doesn't eat as many pies.

Sol Bamba?

I think Ive still got a pair of them up the loft

I was looking at this from back in January:

http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2011/01/19/2312686/2010-11-end-of-season-bosman-list-all-the-players-available

Its interesting that most of the high profile players were either snapped up in January for a small transfer fee [Emanuelson (Milan), Barzagli (Juve), Lakić (Wolfsburg), Rakitić (Sevilla), M Diarra (Monaco)], or have signed on a free in the last few weeks [Taiwo (Milan), Mexes (Milan), Altintop (R Madrid)].

Most of the players on these lists who I've actually heard of are approaching retirement, but of those who aren't, these guys are still available:

Trochowski (Hamburg), Pander (Schalke), Vranjes (Bremen), Pasanen (Bremen), Wendt (Copenhagen), Safari (Basel), Kromkamp (PSV), Navarro (Valencia), Bosingwa (Chelsea), Green (West Ham), Upson (West Ham).

When players of that calibre let their contract run down it's because they have a lucrativemove already lined up.

It beggars belief that a player like Altintop would sign for Madrid where he would have next to no chance of playing, I know it comes down to money but I bet he was on a decent wedge at Bayern so why not stay there or move to a club where you can still be involved and win things

A bit off topic but I’m surprised at the number of players (particularly young players) that move to these clubs when they would be better suited staying put and developing or moving to a slightly bigger club rather than the biggest clubs. It’s all a bit one step forwards and two steps back they stagnate because of a lack of games, Canales at Real being a prime example.

Two reasons:-
1.  The money.
2.  Their egos are such that they actually think they'll get more games than they do.

But mainly I think it's the money!!

Most I would have thought move so they can say hey look I am a Madrid player I must be good ....and convince themselves they are good enough to break through into the team

I realise that thats the main one, if they can have at least a season earning a mega wage it would set them up very nicely even if it damages their reputation.

I'd say that the second is far more relevant.

You're not going to become a professional footballer, and definitely not a professional football courted by the bigger clubs without having the attitude and being frequently told that you are brilliant.

In situations like Canales moving to Real Madrid or Sturridge and Sidwell moving to Chelsea they're doing it because they believe they are good enough and everyone involved is telling them likewise.

Whether he stays or not he needs replacing . Surely he would only be 2nd choice next season so good luck to him.

I like Gomes I think he is a brave keeper.

I especially like him playing for Spurs though.

Spanish side Getafe have turned down an offer of from English side Aston Villa for Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng.

The Premier League slapped in an offer of US$8m for the powerful midfielder which was rejected by the Primera Liga side.

Getafe are expecting a fresh offer from Aston Villa to enable them begin negotiation to agree on price.

The Spanish club have valued their influential Ghanaian player at US$13m after the midfielder excelled in his 18 months at the club.

Boateng, 28, said: “I want to play in the Premier League.”

The midfielder has become a key player in Ghana’s squad and his attracted attention of English sides following his excellent showing in the friendly against England.

Boateng was named Getafe’s best player last season by the club’s supporters.

Sounds promising, apart from hinting that we will be sticking with GH.

McAllister added: "All the decisions will be taking place after the final game of the season and we see what our final league position is.

"Then we will try and start putting things into operation. It's going to be a busy time getting organised for next season.

"The full schedule for pre-season training has been done and Gerard has got all these lists of targets and decisions on players who might not be part of the plans moving forward."

When asked if Houllier had spoken to him about next season, McAllister said: "Absolutely. Everything that Gerard says to me points to him being here and that's just the way he is."

And sit back and watch them froth.....
