If we cant get Walker, (and I'm confident we can) Bosingwa is out of contract in the summer.
Onuoha is a good player and an interesting proposition but only as a centre half who covers full back.
£8m seems a bit harsh but not ridiculously so. His game reminds me of Ugo.

Mmmm, Bentley. Remember not so long back lots of people wanting him at the Villa.... glad that didn't happen.

Had he come here and had a stricter regime under MON I think he might have seen a different player emerge.

oh aye. A bloke who prefers to spend his time in pubs in spain coming to the Greggs and beer monster convention that was MON's training regime.  Nailed on to keep on the straight and narrow i'd have said....

And how many of these Greggs and beer monster convention goers did you see not putting it in on the pitch on a Saturday?  How many of our players went off the rails while under the strong hand of the last manager?  How many young players we signed played well and got into the England side?

Or are you just getting your regular dismissive comment in to keep your average up?

You've seen dunne this season. Are you saying the state he started the season indicates a strict training regime? The fact that the players reportadly moaned about the hard work they had to put under GH, indicates the last one was strict? And there was plenty of examples of indispline under MON. Carew, NRC, Dunne, Osbourne.. You can say his methods worked to an extent, but i think your pushing it to claim MON was strict.

You can argue about whatever you like in terms of rumours from the dressing room or what's come out since, but if you look at the players in Bentley's category we did sign, such as Young, Milner and I'd also include Gabby, they progressed as players under him and got into the England squad.  What's to say similar wouldn't have happened with Bentley?

Say what you like about the methods, but even you must have a hard time arguing with the results.

yep. 80m down the drain, and the club full of deadwood and old men. John Gregory MKII.

No, he's changing the subject, as he often does, as we were talking about whether MON could or would have gotten more out of Bentley had he moved here.  So the reply to my specifically talking about the development of Milner, Ash and Gabby is 'John Gregory MKII'.

They are better players than Bentley, put that with his attitude, I'm glad we didn't sign him.

Do you mean teetotal Milner, Ash and Gabby and pissed up party boy Bentley?

I'm not saying your wrong, just that you've picked 3 of the worst players in our squad to compare him to in terms of character, In fact I think he'd have been a good signing before he went to Tottenham, has gone backwards fast since then though.

I'd say the general consensus at the time he went to Spurs and we signed Milner was that Bentley was the better player.  As it goes, I think the lad has good ability and would have done well here had he come when MON was after him, but I wouldn't be interested now.

Bentley was one of the better players in the league but there was always the chance the ponce factor would take over from all the massive amount of natural talent he has and ruin him, and it has.
The marriage of his ponce factor to Spurs, the spiritual home of the Arch-ponce has seen to it.

Tend to agree with this Greg.

Damn! - that's the second time in as many days that I've had to agree with one of your comments.

MON would probably have got the best out of Bentley, but he'd have been another one who's attitude would have turned to shit as soon as he had to start grafting a bit under the new regime.

He's hardly pulled up any trees at Small Heath.

Walker and Onouha are the right age and quality  and looking to get into the England side. Add the experience and attitude of Given and Parker and that would hugely improve the team. I think next season would be one season too far for Friedel, I think NRC will go for a fresh start and I would say I would happily give Dunne a piggy back to any club interested but obviously I'd have to pay for a taxi for him instead.

Milner, Downing, Delph, Young, Gabby - old men, deadwood, or £80m down the drain?
