what we need is a big fucking Scandanavian oak tree to play next to Ciaran Clark in central defence next season. It's served us well in the past. A big brave as Thor warrior with a cultured up and coming star next to him.

Haageland from Fulham?

He's as mobile as an oak tree as well.

The last time Ash Young did something 'outrageous'    was his goal against Everton.

Exactly.  If anyone thinks his through ball yesterday was 'outrageous' they're deluded.  He's an attacking midfielder - the least I expect of him is the ability to pass a through ball for the striker!

I'm talking about things that geniuinely exite you and give you something to talk about.  Like Yorke's penalty against Arsenal where he just dinked it down the middle.  The real moments of absolute genius that you know no other player on the pitch could do.

I'd love Hangeland. Or somebody like Mertesacker.

That's where three supporting players come in, to tidy up and make up for his mobility issues. Hangeland fits the bill for his ability in the opposition box, as he showed against the shit yesterday. Also, he'd be an instant Villa legend if his goals yesterday somehow contributed to that lot being relegated

I rest my case your honour.

If we're spending £10M on a centre half I'd rather he covered for everyone else rather than the other way round.

I will buy him a pint for yesterday's 2 goals if he's ever round my way though.

I don't mind a player who is somewhat limited if he's outstanding at what he is good at. I'm not saying Hangeland is that player but he's good at what he does well. It's very possible there are better players out there. To get true all rounders is tough though. There aren't many of them around to be honest.

Walker, Samba, N'Zogbia should definitely be targets.

N'Zogbia is the best dribbler in the country and he scores from open play. Comfortable off the front too.

Samba is 28 on his next birthday, which whilst not old, suggests we'll be paying top dollar for him.  I'd prefer and younger player or someone at the end of their contract.  Put another way, I want us to sign players whose value is likely to increase.  with samba, even if he is a success, his value is not likely to increase much.  Continuing the cycle of spending more than we can afford.

Agree with that, but we do need some experience back there, we can't afford another season of transition and if Clark is going to be #1 we need a centre banck who knows the league. I wouldn't pay massive amounts, but circa £8m he'd be worth it, I reckon.

They only paid 250k for him, IIRC.

He's not been universally popular this season but I would keep Collins for that experienced role.  There was an interview with Albrighton posted on here and he said how it is always Collins that is helping and advising the youngsters.  It will also mean that there is a degree of continuity between this season and next.

If Collins/Clark/Cuellar cannot step up then there is also the opportunity to buy in January.

I wonder what Samba's partner in defence Jones would cost?

I wonder what would have happened if Hangeland had passed his medical with us.

I would take Samba or Hangeland. Both are good defenders. Collins has been immense in a couple of games this season - Man City, Newcastle and Arsenal away spring to mind. Spot the pattern. He is a very good defender when he is in the mood, and can win almost anything in air. Dunne just looks like an error is in him every game, someone will buy him.

I think we do have a great chance of signing Walker. I think we'll offer them enough to make it worth their while and I can't see Walker fitting in with Redknapp's style. He'll take the cash for him and buy some showpony.
They also have Naughton as back up. And I'd be after him too if they dont want him.

In the meanwhile, Walker will be first choice here and will be allowed to develop. I also reckon he'll want to stay here buy who knows.

I think Matt Kendrick put on Twitter that he gets the impression Walker wants to stay but the final decision will be out of his hands..(unless he slaps in a transfer request I guess).

Walker really is a cracking footballer, i do hope we keep him. Yeah he needs to work on the defensive side of his game, but that will come.

Walker
Hangeland or Samba
Scott Parker (if we can't get him we should go for Hitzlberger)
N'Zogbia (if Ash goes)
