I would be happy with that........Im not totally convinced by Kyle defensively but hopefully Ray Wilkins will work on him over the summer

We need a couple of captains. Huth or Samba and Parker or Barton fit the bill to play next to Makoun and Clark.

I'd like something like this:

Foster
Walker - Huth - Clark - Taiwo
Larsson - Parker - Makoun - Downing
Gervinho
Bent

Looks great to me on paper, attacking fullbacks on the overlap and wide players who can come infield to give us extra bodies/versatility in terms of formation. The midfield four, two fullbacks and Gervinho all great on the ball, athletic and capable of playing a short passing game.

Larsson offers Milner-esque work rate and his set pieces will produce results. With Gabby, Heskey, Marc, Stan, Bannan, Delph and Collin in reserve we'd have options.

Taiwo and Gervinho will be tough w/o Europe and Foster will be difficult if they don't go down. I imagine we'll be after a Forfana as opposed to a Parker too.

The only problem with that is that Larsson, whilst he might work hard, is unbelievably average in every respect.

i think its a certainty that there will be a new manager in situ for next season. Houllier perhaps on the board. So in terms of personnel going out a lot could change.

Goalkeeper - Id be willing to give Westwood the chance to be honest. Given, Foster, Robinson, Green are all gettable

centre half - Clark is the only certainty to stay. Looks like Dunne is off. I dont think Huth is any better than Cuellar or Collins really. Samba maybe is better but we would want to be getting a good price for either Cuellar or Collins if he is coming in.

Left back - No idea to be honest. Gibbs is surely sick of sitting on Arsenal's bench. id offer luke young another year and pay off beye to leave. Warnock, can only see us getting 3m max for him.

right back - unlikely walker will stay. Onouha perhaps.

Midfield - Reo Coker unless his wages are sensible can go (though Id like to keep him), Petrov we should cash in too. Larsson is alright. Not sure about makoun at all. Milner maybe. We need a big signing if Young leaves. Make or break season for Delph. ireland is surely off.

Wings - Albrighton, downing, Larsson (likely)

Striker - Heskey is definitely off. Bent, Gabby, Fonz is enough anyway. Lichaj, Hogg, Baker etc can hopefully be back up. But we need a new manager to give the place a boost. We are an attractive club for any propective manager imo.

It is going to be a huge summer of change at Villa Park.

I'm not convinced Clark will be a starter at the beginning of the season. He's only started at centre back when there's been no other option. He's looked classy against poor teams at home. But I think he could do with a couple of months getting roughed about a bit in the championship. He could also do with the gabby weights programme this summer.

One thing, no two things that Larsson has: tenacity and quality set piece delivery.

Otherwise... meh.

Larsson is nothing spectacular (set pieces a side), but his work rate and versatility make him a decent option on a free. I wouldn't sign him for money, as what he brings (bar set piece quality) can just be replaced by someone from the academy.

But we saw the benefit of set pieces in 2008/09, and while we don't want to be Stoke, if we can add 10 goals a season from corners and freekicks no one will be complaining.

I live with a SHA fan and we stream alot of their games (so unfortunately I've seen alot of them this season), and I don't have the stats, but the amount of goals they've scored from set pieces this year has been ridiculous - and while Foster, Dann and Johnson are better players, they'd have been certanties to go down without Larsson.
