i think it was mysteryman over at vt who said that we have a replacement lined up for young if he does leave, and it wasnt a winger...

gervinho would fit the bill, and tbh, would really soften the blow of losing young...

it could be arged that he would be an improvement, but thats down to the individuals views on young, and he does seem to split the camp these days...

So, how is next season's team shaping up then?  In a 4-4-1-1:-

New GK

Walker
Mangane
Clark
Izaguirre

Albrighton
Makoun
Kalstrom
Downing

Gervinho

Bent

Was it mysteryman who said that Larsson is a cert in the Summer?

no, i think he said he wasnt coming...

if memory serves me right, larssons people asked us to put in a bid in jan, we made an enquiry, and he then said, "nah, i will stay and play in the cup final"...

Looks good but that midfield is soft as shite.

Agree, Kallstrom and Makoun together is too lightweight, if we're playing 2 wingers.

Not bad looking John, but I think Kallstrom would have to start on the bench to make way for the big powerful brick wall stopper we (hopefully) have lined up.
It would be more 4-2-3-1 then.

Totally agree the midfield looks weak defensively - I was just putting a perspective team together from the players we've seen the stronger links to.

Gervinho looks every bit like Ash. As much as most of us want him to stay, I think he will look to join a "CL team" (that comment sounds so 2009-2010). My guess is Man U. So Gervinho would be ace as his replacement.

I also think we'll be back in for Fofana - the French  lad who failed a medical in January.

Yeah you got the feeling in January that the Fofana deal wasn't dead in the water.
Hopefully things will shape up for an exciting summer! With no WC or Euro's we need something to keep us talking through June & July!!

The thing is, he signed a three year deal at Le Havre after failing a medical here so may not represent the same value he once did.

He's played 29 times for them this season so maybe the medical was too cautious or maybe he's an accident waiting to happen.

Incidentally, Kallstrom is supposedly being paid £70k per week at Lyon.

Good player though he is, I'm not sure he's worth that much.

The stories that came out at the time was Houllier talking about looking at value of a young player. Apparently this was to keep the lid on the fact that he had a bad back (or something) and he didn't want to ruin the kid's career.
