According to the Times match report today, Houllier will be signing Kim Kallstrom from Lyon in the Summer.

According to his wiki page he has played on the wing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_K%C3%A4llstr%C3%B6m

However, Kallstrom is 29 this year, I can't see him as being a replacement for Ash.

Kallstrom is a classy player. For whatever reason he's not really become a big time player as his potential suggested. Maybe attitude, I don't know why. But he's technically good, can pick a pass and can twat the ball from distance impressively too. I could see him netting a few screamers.

He could possibly be that creative player in the middle we're lacking. He's got a bit of class about him. I'd be happy if we signed him.

Keepers wise I'd go along with Westwood as number 2. As for number one. I'm not a big Green fan. Sometimes he looks the bollocks, but too often he just drops them. He's too punch happy for my liking too.

I'd opt for Given or Robinson. Given's always been brilliant and Robinson has been excellent for Blackburn, particularly the last two seasons.

I think Kallstrom is ace and would thrive in this league. God, it's like my 2005 wishlist coming to life

Strong, thunderbolt shot, great range of passing, versatile, good from set pieces and experienced.
Plus we've been lacking scandinavians recently.

Potential squad for next season, completely off the top of my head and a bit of fun:

Green, Westwood, Guzan.
Walker, Young, Sakho, Johnson, Clark, Collins, Taiwo
Kallstrom, Makoun, Parker (c), Delph, Gardner,
Bannan, Larsson, Albrighton, Downing, Gourcuff,
Bent, Agbonlahor, Gignac, Delfouneso, Weimann

Kallestrom is a very good player but I do wonder why no team in the top European leagues has taken a punt on him ?

No nor me Maz. To be fair, it may be that he has settled in France and it's not like he hasn't been playing at the top end of Europen football. At 28 (29 in August) he will be at his peak and would fancy his chances in the premier league under a manager he knows.

Leighton Baines?? I think he is corking from set pieces and reliable at the back, we could, as ever, do with some cover on the flanks.
