There are lots of great bosman deals available this summer too. They'll be in demand though.
But I agree, lots leaving and Randy will back us to some degree again. I'm not expecting lavish but generous enough. A lot of rotten timbers to replace or risk the roof caving in.

Thinking about it, we've vastly reduced the wages since Martin first mentioned the 'sell to buy' in Jan 2010.  Basing it from then to summer 2011, here's who has/will fall off the wagebill:-
Gardner
Harewood
Shorey
Milner
Davies
Sidwell
Carew
NRC

The new signings, exluding loans we don't know if we'll be keeping, are:-
Ireland
Bent
Makoun

So quite a bit of saving there.

GED may well have a couple of Bosman deals up his sleeve with a bit of luck, I think there will be a lot of ins and outs and if he can get in the players more suited to his style of football all bodes well for a much improved season , we have some very good players here already and a few decent additions will see us pick up momentum next season- it's been a long hard season and we look to a more exciting future once we get to the summer.

Seeing Ireland on that list makes my blood boil. How the hell are we gonna get that lunatic off the pay roll?

Has he played any minutes for the bar codes?

There was talk about giving Ireland a clean slate if he returns in the summer but a leopard doesn't change it's spots and I can only see him being a negative influence wherever he goes - to get rid we may need to give him a big pay off as man city did to hasten his departure.

Yep,thats what i think. At first i thought give him a break,he's a sensitive soul, but now i think he represents everything thats wrong in the modern game, all the talent in the world, just doesn't give a friar tuck.

I think he can only be a bad influence on the squad, especially with so many young lads in it.

I think we could see a whole team leave this summer. As many as that and more and most will need replacing either directly or from the youth team. Some already have been.

Friedel, Marshall, Collins, Dunne, Walker, Beye, Warnock, L Young, Petrov, Reo Coker, Pires, Bradley, A Young, Heskey, Carew, Ireland, Osbourne, Salifou

You could realistically see any of those leaving and perhaps all. Maybe a couple will be retained. Walker, Heskey, Luke Young, Collins and Reo Coker for instance. Maybe a couple more will be hard to shift at a reasonable price, like Ireland. Some are definitely off as you can't see them signing new contracts.

Well, it might seem like a huge overhaul. That's because it is.
But the basis of a good team is there and most of those leaving are no good to us anyway. No good to a team looking to play more progressive football anyway. A lot of the youngsters were brought through in a team that played some nice football and will be open to the change in style.

But my good lord there is some work to be done. At least if Houllier stays (and I want to see what he does with his own team unless an obviously better manager is available) he is a wheeler dealer in the market with contacts galore. We're going to need that.

It's not as bad as it sounds when you consider those of that list that aren't near our 1st 11 and aren't going to get anywhere near in it the future.  This basically means that their departures do not weaken us from the team we are right now:-
Beye
Warnock
Bradley
Carew
Ireland
Osbourne
Salifou

As far as I'm aware, he signed on a 4 year deal at £60,000 per week.  So come the summer he'll have 3 years left at a total cost of £9.36m, which is our worst case scenario financially.  Even if we only got £3m for him and still had to pay half his wages that reduces to £1.68m.

Ask the right person and you'll actually find out it was Doug that sanctioned the deal!

While in hindsight it was an awful deal, I am pretty sure most on here were delighted when he signed.

I think maybe Hughes at fulham might take him on the cheap as he seemed to play his best under Hughes but I doubt we would get £3m for him and would probably have to pay him a huge sum to go.
