I wouldn't dispute that. But I still respect him more than Barry.

JM should have give us two seasons more at least.

Milner spoke very nicely last week about his time at villa and how big a club we are and how he hoped we would survive- I think he would be interested in coming back but at what price and wages?

He would certainly fill the attacking midfield role far better than ash has done this season , maybe just maybe we have a chance of getting him after his reAction to being hauled off last night.

I guess Newcastle fans might say the same about his move to us. He's not my favourite person in the world and I agree he was a greedy git, but if we were in his boots at that age would we have turned down £££? We just don't know. In my view Barry should have done things behind closed doors as we gave him his break in football.

Seems to be growing rumours linking Liverpool with downing , would people take Milner and Jarvis in place of young and downing?

Gareth made a mistake going to the news of the world about his desire to leave but I prefer to remember his 10 yrs of loyal service and effort rather than hold a grudge about the way he left.

That's how I see it now too although it boiled my piss for quite some time.
However, unlike Milner, I dont want him back.

Milner is not coming back, get over him

Sadly I think this is right, but we do miss him.

For those who know far better than me, if Gary Gardner is in the Gerrard mould would next year be too early for him to be playing like Torres & Gerrard did in their prime? Bent & Gardner?

I'm not sure what's being asked here. Yes, I think he'll be playing next season. Starting as a #10? I'm not sure about that. I'm not totally sure where his best position is yet. He's a box to box player really but I'm sure he could adapt to playing the attacking role too. He gets into attacking positions naturally though.

The Gerrard comparisons are fair. I'd say Gerrard was in his prime around 25-28. Gardner would presumable be at his best then too.
It all depends who comes and who goes but I would definitely say that Gardner will be ready for a first team squad place next season. He's an exceptional talent.

"A midfield five of Makoun, Milner and Delph, with Albrighton and Downing wide behind Bent would be lovely. Bent is capable of getting 20, Milner (with license to get forward) 10 and Downing and Albrighton could/should be pushing double figures."

Maz - that's what I was suggesting but for Milner read Gardner.

No chance. Young I think is pretty much destined to leave but we wouldn't sell Downing too. And Liverpool can get to fuck.

Not a chance of what monty? If downing expressed an interest in going to liverpool and requested a move then I would expect it to happen, no manager would want an unhappy player and we know young will be going.

Jarvis looks a decent prospect and I would think he will be available if wolves drop. Downing is our player of the season this year for me and it would take a huge offer to get him but Liverpool seem to have targeted him as their number one transfer target according to various sources.

Steve, I genuinely think Gardner will end up being a class above Milner and yes, that is saying something.
In the meantime, I'd like Milner back and Gardner getting phased exposure. Ideally, of course.

I always thought that Milner would have been perfect for Chelsea to replace Fat Frank

Well no chance that scenario of Milner and Jarvis replacing Downing and Young. For a start, while Young is out of here, Downing isn't going anywhere unless someone really, really big come in for him (and despite the result yesterday, I still don't think Liverpool are getting European football next year), which isn't going to happen. Liverpool can target him all they want, they'll have to look elsewhere, we've been quite unequivocal on the subject (when our club say "we're not selling", we don't usually sell). Unless we go down I could hardly see Downing forcing through a move - it's not like his contract's up, like Ash - and because of the Ash money, we won't need to sell. As for Jarvis, a) I don't think he's as good as Downing and b) as Downing's not leaving, he could well end up at Liverpool.

And if Milner leaves City, which I don't think he will, he won't go to us, he'd more likely go to another Champions' League club because he really is good enough. And like I say, I don't think he will leave.
