THE MOST RIDICULOUS TRANSFER RUMOUR OF THE SEASON

Richard Dunne's recent off-field spat with Aston Villa's coaching staff has made the Republic of Ireland centre-back a target for both Liverpool and Manchester United.
Full story: Metro

That's got to be a pisstake?

I could see Liverpool being interested, he's still a really good defender when he can be arsed.

His arse, or rather the size of it, being the crux of the issue.

give nige a new deal and make him captain , flog petrov for a couple of million and use his wages to pay for niges new deal.
The problem with that plan is that we then have a deeply average player not only permanently in central midfield but also captaining the side.

why would he have to be captain of the side? do you seriously think petrov is a better long term option than reo-coker ? i would keep nige but that doesnt mean by any means he would be a regular or captain
He would probably have to be captain under your scenario because you said "give nige a new deal and make him captain".

So if you're making him captain he's probably going to be in the team most weeks, no?

As for Petrov, he's a far better player than Reo-Coker and has been a far bigger success for us. He's on his way out and most definitely shouldn't be starting for us. But that's due to age/fitness, not ability.

Reo-Coker shouldn't be starting for us either and that's due to ability and not age/fitness.

Totally disagree dave, I'd have reo- Coker ahead of petrov anytime and petrov apart from one good season stan  has been average for us , nige would be my captain from the current bunch but that's not saying much- I'd hope a good leader will come in during the summer , and then nige may not make the team but I'd far rather reo-Coker as a squad player than petrov personally.

I think some of the NRC bashing on here over the years has been harsh
He generally puts a shift in, isn't afraid to mix it, and is a natural leader

You can see any number of people fitting that description in every park on a Sunday morning.

There's plenty to admire about his attitude and application but there is no getting away from as a footballer he is limited. There's a place for him in the squad if he's willing to accept that role but if, as I suspect, he wants to be a a club where he plays every week then he'll have to move on.

Sadly, I think he will move on, my money would be on QPR (assuming they're up)

If GED is still here he will continue to rotate and nobody in midfield can count on a weekly place , maybe some haven't forgiven nige for his ruck with o neill but as a squad player he has a lot to offer.

I imagine all contract talks and plans are on hold right now until we ensure survival , can anyone tell me is Clark still suspended or was it one game only please?
