I can't remember where I read this now, but Real Madrid are allegedly looking to sell Canales to Valladolid for £5m.

Whilst a midfielder is not a priority at that price... He's a more natural and potentially a better "10" than Ashley Young.

Canales is a great player, and what 20?

I can't believe he is available for £5m, but if he is it is an absolute steal.Plays in the role behind a lonestriker.Top Quality player.

Gervinho looked a storming player in the world cup. If that is the quality, then good stuff.

Gervinho would be Ashley's replacement I imagine.

If we are looking to repace Young with a winger then from the very little I have seen of him, Phillips at Blackpool could be a good long term bet.  Saw him put Kolorov to the sword when they played Man City.

Buy him and then GH can look for an exotic foreigner to play behind the front man.

I'd be wary of buying any players that are playing well in a one off season when the emotion/adrenalin is running high at a promoted club. Look at that Brazilian at Hull (Geovanni?) and the right-winger at Reading - Little? its very difficult for them to recapture that form when the pressure is on them to do it consistently;y at a bigger club. Could even put Sidwell into that category.

Ashley linked with £20m move to Man Utd in the Express.

I'd take that.

Me too. Think he is wonderful on his day, but the system is all about accomodating him, and IMO there are better players in that role in Europe and I am confident Houllier would find them.

Linked with Westwood again today too, anyone but Friedel is becoming a big thing for next season. I remember how bad we were when Carson lost all confidence at the back, and think the keeper plays a much bigger part in good defending from set plays etc than we are estimating. Maybe that is why GH was trying so hard to get Given in before the window shut.

If true about given and Westwood I'd be happy , gervinho top class but can't imagine utd would pay £20m for ash with one yr left- £12m to £15m max I would think.

In today's press villa being linked with summer move for Lille striker gervinho rated at £15m, and with a record of a goal every 2 games.

Just another Daily Mirror story space filler. I wish i'd written down all the players that rag has linked us with over the last couple of years, it would be very amusing.

There's a reason for that and it's because 99% of what they print is bollocks. Thanks for the reply anyway, so kind.

Let's hope that gervinho is in that 1% bracket in this case.

Absolutely no idea, never heard of him before.

Name ends in "inho" though so he must be great.
