I would prefer N'Zogbia tbh, more of a goal threat.

Not sure about AJohnson , he seems a bit of a billy big time player to me, and don't think Citeeeeh would let him go either.

I like that lad at Wigan as well McCarthy.......good footballer who can play in that fabled "hole" well.If Ash goes, and Wigan go down, would use the money to buy both.

Downing will be getting my player of the season vote at the moment- he has been vastly improved this season and I'm delighted with him.

I'd probably agree, though in fairness there aren't a huge amount of candidates this year.
Downing has had his fair share of quiet/ shit games, but he's probably been our biggest threat overall and has added goals to his game this year.

I understand the arguments re playing him in his right position, but my problem isn't his contribution on the right flank. He's actually played quite well there, and when he cuts in from that side, teams struggle to pick him up. We could have been 2/3 up versus Fulham in the first 20 minutes and he was at the heart of most of the good things we did v Blackpool. The issue is more about who we play on the left.

Me too.

re Adam Johnson, isn't he subject of talk about his off-field activities? Not confusing him with Michael Johnson, either.

I don't want N'Zogbia anywhere near Villa Park. If ever there were a player who thought he was better than he actually was, who shows up occasionally on the big occasions but so often looks like he can't be bothered, who plays entirely for himself with at times no regard for the team, who agitates for a move at the slightest excuse, it would be him.

I think we need minimum 3, left back, right back, centre back.

The Guardian reported in January that Ged has two targets all but done from French football for the Summer. I'd imagine one would be a left back due to his comments about Clark and Baker being fine until the end of the season. I presume they're both free transfers?

A Friedel and Dunne replacement may also be needed. But they shouldn't cost the earth. Ashley Young's replacement might be the only costly one, especially as after Watford's sell on fee we're unlikely to make much of a profit on him. 3-4m tops.

If we are looking to repace Young with a winger then from the very little I have seen of him, Phillips at Blackpool could be a good long term bet.  Saw him put Kolorov to the sword when they played Man City.

Buy him and then GH can look for an exotic foreigner to play behind the front man.

Michel Bastos would be my target. Probably out of our league, mind. Then again, so was Makoun arguably.

We'll be back in for that young French midfielder, I imagine, the U-19 lad. Read it somewhere last week.

But yes, we absolutely, definitely, need to get a left-back. Sell Warnock, use new signing and have Baker (with Clark third option) as cover.

Fofana signed a 3 year deal with Le Havre a couple of weeks ago.

Jarvis at wolves could be a useful winger, I wasn't aware Watford get a sell on fee for ash , in that case it would be to our advantage to a do a player swap deal depending on the buying club and miss out on paying Watford a fee.

Er, another U-19 French midfield lad, then.... y'know, that other fella.....

Well, serves me right for trusting that report then.

I like the look of Jarvis too, we just need wolves to be relegated then.

In today's press villa being linked with summer move for Lille striker gervinho rated at £15m, and with a record of a goal every 2 games.

I thought he was brilliant during the World Cup for Ivory Coast. He would work well with Bent. Yes please.
