Itchy chin emoticon

Aston Villa are lining up a summer offer for Basel winger Xherdan Shaqiri - but will face stiff competition from across Europe for his signature.
Full story: talksport.co.uk

Never going to happen.

Most of the Holte couldn't pronounce "One Xherdan Shaqiri, there's only one Xherdan Shaqiri, one Xherdan Shaqiiiiiiiri...."

Should have signed him when MON was still here.  "Shaq" and "O'Neil" just fit together so well !!

Yes, given the investment, Moyes has worked miracles keeping them up for so many seasons and took them to 4th not so long ago...

I do agree that Moyes has done an excellent job at Everton but I think it's somewhat of a myth that he's had no cash to spend. I don't know the figures but until recently they were spending substantial amounts, £10m+, on individual players, which a team with no money wouldn't be able to do even if the money was generated from player sales.

Moyes is good at building difficult to beat sides but hasn't shown an ability to go beyond that. When you think of Everton words line efficient and effective come to mind but never exciting. It could be argued that he hasn't had the money but he has had a far bit and he's had something most managers don't get - time.

I'd rather stick with what we have.

Chris, that last line will go on your headstone.

Are you threatening to kill me?

I'm not against any change, just change for its own sake or change that doesn't take us forward.

I think we have to give GH until the end of the season, if things haven't improved RL / PF will have to review the situation then. If Moyes is on the market, he'd have to be in contention as would Mark Hughes

I know it's opening a can of worms, and as much as Moyes hasn't had as much money as some of his counterparts, he has been quite wasteful at times. There are few managers in the PL that are better at spotting a bargain, but a bit like Wenger, give him big money to spend on one or two players I'd be worried. He really hasn't signed a top forward in the time he's been at the club, and he's signed the likes of Beattie, Fellaini, Yakubu, Kroldrup, Johnson for big money. It will be very interesting if he does leave and go to a club that gives him a decent transfer budget to see what he does.

Kroldrup was a midfielder, so is Fellaini. And the latter is a great player.
They made a profit on Johnson (Fulham stupidly paid £11m  after he had under-achieved at Goodison).
Your point about him signing underwhelming strikers remains however.

You didn't really just call Fellaini a "great" player did you?

underwhelming striker? Louis Saha on a free or virtually a free a couple of seasons ago. Wasn't he one of the top scorers in the league last season?

Disagree with you wiki, I'd far rather give houllier at least another year than have Hughes or moyes- I think we are onto something here and if it comes together next season could be really good for us.

If in a year or so we haven't flourished under GED then maybe moyes would be worth a shout but I think owen coyle would be the up and coming manager I'd favour , although he would probably see it as just a stepping stone ,certainly GED should be given at least another year to  build the team as he wants it.

Yep, great feet, strong in the air. I'd have him ahead of Petrov, NRC, possibly even Makoun and maybe Milner (if he was still here). Struggled a bit with injuries lately and he hasn't scored as many goals as he should this season but he's still only 23.

Each to their own I suppose. But I certainly wouldn't deem him "great", and above Milner (i.e PFA Young Player of the Year central midfield Milner???). You're having a laugh.

you may be right eastie but i think the rest of this season will tell us a lot about GH
2 or 3 years further development and I think Simon Grayson may be a good shout, he has a good demeanour about him
