I've not ate my pudding yet. In fact I think I've barely finished my starter.

It's not even July FFS.

And MON is NOT manager.

Has anyone seen the Diego rumours? Can't see that one and he seems like a bad egg. But it'd be exciting and if he regained anything like his best form he'd be sensational and exactly the sort of player we need to play 4-2-3-1. But very much suspect this isn't happening, even on loan.

Mate doing his b licence with shay given last week says shay said he would be signing for villa this week

Would be great as long as we got a fee agreed before it started while his stock has fallen. Fantastic ability.

Craig Gardner valued at £6m by Sunderland ... how does this look in the current prices for AY and Henderson?

If it is Given and IF he stays healthy he'll be a brilliant choice as keeper for what I'd imagine will be the balance of his career.

I hope we have a sell on clause, that will be highly amusing.

Gardner will do a very good job for sunderland and knock in some goals- maybe he deserved more chances here but since his blues badge kissing I think it would have been hard to return- certainly a good deal for brucey considering he fleeced the scousers on Henderson.

I'd only want downing to stay if he's happy to do so, if he's unsettled we don't need that negative effect in the dressing room and anyone wanting to leave is better off being sold rather than sulking-

Why always give the tarts exactly what they want though? If he definitely wants out that is, I haven't actually heard him say that. His contract was attractive enough to commit for four years in 2009. That's what he wanted then. I know contracts are barely worth the paper they are written on today, but it does give us a degree of control.

Fabregas has wanted out for the past three years, Barry wanted out in the summer of 2008 but remained for another year.  Don't get me wrong, I never thought Downing was in it for the long haul and I don't think he's so special that he'd be impossible to replace. But why should we purposely be reasonable just so that he (and his agent) can cash in again and strengthen a rival at the same time?

In the case of Yorke and the likes of Van Hooyjonk (before he was an international) you could make the argument that it was detrimental to keep an umotivated player around. But Downing should be motivated enough to keep his place in the England squad -and possibly force himself into the starting XI for Euro 2012. If he does that -and if things haven't progressed suitably enough at Villa for him by then- he could have a whole host of other clubs interested in him, particularly for the price he'd be available for at that stage.

BBC are reporting Sunderland have had a bid of £9M accepted by Ipswich for Conor Wickham.

I asked a Feyenoord-supporting friend about Wesley Werhoek and got a very positive reply:

"He is very good and as feyenoord cannot afford him, I would be grateful if Villa could help avoid him going to Ajax".

Given and Etherington as replacements for Friedel and Young. I didn't think things could get worse than the last couple of weeks but it appears that it could just be the start.

Did I also read at the weekend that the new manager won't be given all the funds from Youngs transfer? So much for that load of bollocks Krulak came out with about 'just imagine what AM could do with a board that backs him'.

I think it might be a good idea to wait and see what happens first
