Surprise bid from Newcastle, they've matched Fulham's bid for Ruiz. F-sake, why couldn't that just be Villa? He's one hell of a player.

The NetworkVilla twitter account says Simpson story is bullshit.  Run by the club so I guess it must be true.

I know it's difficult sometimes not to get carried away, but by leaving things until the last day it certainly doesn't help. I have a feeling that Hutton will sign, but surely this could have been done 4 days ago, and not with less than 4 hours left.

It would have been nice to do some of the business we desperately needed to do this time last week rather than wasting so much time and effort replacing one of the three players we've moved on since then, though.

Sometimes we make it very hard for ourselves.

Exactly.  We knew we always needed a CM regardless of who else left the club.  To find the club in a worse situation than we were at the start of the transfer window is depressing and shameful, given the noises that were being made about strengthening.

Lerner still as some credit at my bank but he's getting perilously close to his limit.  It is looking more like a cost saving season rather than anything with ambition.

Sky said ages ago that the Hutton to Fulham thing was rubbish and that he was at Villa Park. That thing on the BBC site is rubbish.

I think i might turn off SSN off, they don't seem to have a clue, they're just making a lot of it up. A reporter saying only Fulham have put a bid in, but on the yellow ticker, they're saying Hutton is in Birmingham having a medical. Hmm.

sky reported from tottenham that only fulham had a bid accepted and villa hadnt followed up yesterdays enquiry-that was a couple of hours ago-thankfully mrs east has the remote so im avoiding the high pitched squabble , knowing my old friend clampy will keep us abreast of it all.

Nah not me Eastie, you're so much better at it than i am, you were after all first to break the news this morning that Redknapp had arrived at the Spurs training ground, for which we were all grateful.

The General's exact words were 'imagine what McCleish could do with an owner that backs him.

I imagine right now that McCleish is still wondering what it would be like.

Its a very strange move to appoint such an unpopular manager and then leave him swinging in the wind like this, totally at odds with the way he has run the club up to now.

I reiterate the point I made earlier, I thought the issue was wages? We have savagely cut the wage bill this summer. We were told that the money for transfer fees wasn't the issue, so why do we appear to have pretty much fuck all?

Be interested to know what's happened with this Hutton thing, not that I'm craving for the player to sign, I play golf and socialize now and again with one of the lads/legends from the eighties Villa squad and yes did play in the final, he's still a part time scout for the club and still pretty much in the know, he said this was a done deal back 2 weeks ago, so would be curious to know.

Urgh.

To think that £15m or so this summer could have got us Dann, Cabaye, Santon, Ba and Grygera.

And we potentially end up with Jenas and Hutton. Urgh again.

According to the OS and recently added on Facebook:

Villa can confirm that Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas are currently undergoing medicals.

If the deals are completed, right-back Hutton would join permanently while the move for midfielder Jenas would be a season-long loan.

We will update supporters again as soon as we have further news.
