The missus heard it on the laptop and thought I was playing Hell's Bells live.

I think I have written "Utter wank" about three times on a related Facebook page (Yes, I know, I'm changing the world). It keeps getting deleted so let me repeat here : Holte End with the fans was absolutely wonderful. Loved it. Video montage on Pravda : ABSOLUTE WANK! Sorry. But no. Really!

Mate, it's not being deleted. For some reason over the last few days posts keep disappearing then reappearing.

Cheers Lee! I only mention it  because I feel strongly about the issue (while lauding the club for giving it a go all the same).

I kept expecting Black Sabbath to come out at the start.

Yes I was rather hoping for more of the jolly uplifting peals like the ones at the end but we got the funereal tolling all the way through.

And I agree with other posters that he sings the words very clearly but that it would have helped if he'd gone nearer the actual melody as well.

Think the guy has a good voice, though.

And if it works...that's what everybody's been working to achieve.  It's not the way I would have done it but at least it's there!

Just don't want to have a reason to revive my old 45 of, 'we're going up'...

My missus just heard it and said "and you had the cheek to take the piss out of that other club about that Michael Jackson Statue".

I've just put it on.

When does Phil Collins start singing 'In The Air Tonight'?

Er I don't know what to say?

I quite like the doom metal bell at the start, I'd like it more on a doom metal album though.  As for the bulk of it, it's kiddy metal/Eighties hair metal.  Whatever else you might say about it, it's certainly unexpected..............................

All of which will make no difference to getting behind the team on Sunday, as far as I'm concerned (good job really).

Am I the only one who thinks of Richard Marx when the singing starts? I really like the intro, but someone needs to ask the club to stop playing it before the vocals start!

And has anyone been brave enough to tell the General it's shit yet?

I hate crap music. That new version definatly falls into that category.
On a brighter note The Stone Roses may possibly play again some day.

It's a start. It might actually work in front of forty odd thousand, too.  Definitely not what I was expecting, though.

After a few beers and a bit of adrenaline, those bells in the intro just might take on a life of their own...if the whole thing gets the crowd to join together and sing the chant then it will be a case of job done.  It just could work.  (Fingers crossed!!)  If not, simply keep the bells, fade out the vocals and let the crowd take over.

That new version is gobsmackingly fucking terrible.

I know they're trying to do the right thing, as they see it, but I can't help thinking that having what sounds like Mister Mister doing a cover of a thirty year old chant is only going to achieve exactly the opposite. How very, very embarassing.

And while I'm moaning, I know we're not supposed to say this, and I loved singing the song in the 80s, would love to see it coming back, and appreciate the good intentions of all involved, but I also find that singalong on the Holte steps pretty cringeworthy too.

It is one of those things that probably sounds a great idea on paper, but when actually carried out, doesn't pull it off.

Oh dear the 'official' version is just cringeworthingly shit. I just hope results go our way in the next couple of weeks and it gets quietly forgotten about.

Maybe on the day with a packed Villa Park it'll sound better?

As it stands, I'd almost say, come back Renford Williams all is forgiven!

It's simple, we're going to have it sing it louder and longer to ensure the PA is drowned out. Probably need to drop the 2nd verse as well, only about 5% will sing that anyway.
