Video Killed The Radio Star, anyone?

Edit: Candle in the Wind?

I'll leave it be now.

If it's going to be a club anthem then surely it has to be something with a bit of gravitas? Suggestions of OCS and the Buggles etc really dont cut the mustard for me

Still like the Bells

The bells are ringing for Claret and Blue
Everybody is singing for Claret and Blue
Every Villan is knowing to Villa Park were going
Aston Villa are showing
Were the best in the land

Everybody up standing for Claret and Blue
Everybody is clapping for Claret and Blue
Do you know why were singing
Why the bells are all ringing
Today is for Villans
All over the land.

How about the Dead Kennedys - Too Drunk to Fuck?

No

then one i always loved was the Bachelor boy

"When i was young my father said, son i have something to say
These are the words i'll never forget until my dying day
He said
Son you are a Villa fan and that the way you'll stay
Always to be a Villa fanb until your dying day"

** Disclaimer - i may have got the lyrics a bit wrong**  :-[

If it is an Anthem for the team to come out to then i have always like the classical piece from the Omen / Old spice adverts

My personal fav would be "Cars" to be reworked to Villa lyrics, I'm not clever enough to change the lyrics myself!

Otherwise traditionally...Bells are Ringing...it sticks out for me as a kid when the bells did chime once at the Church just before kick off...the PA could always pump out some bell chimes!

If we're going down the Dead Kennedys route we could think about Nagasaki Nightmare by Crass. Just substitute the words Holte End for Nagasaki.

They're always there high in the skies..
Nagasaki nightmare, Nagasaki nightmare
Pretty as a picture in the generals' eyes
Nagasaki nightmare, Nagasaki nightmare
They've done it once, they'll do it again
They'll shower us all in their deadly rain
Nagasaki nightmare, Nagasaki nightmare
Nagasaki nightmare, Nagasaki nightmare
Nagasaki nightmare, Nagasaki nightmare

Start with the opening from Shaved Women and it'll put the wind up the opposition for sure :)

Banned from St Andrews to the tune of Banned from the Roxy would be popular with our toilet smashing contingent.

Animal Collective's "What Would I Want? Sky."  seems an appropriate title at least.

Is everything alright?
You feeling moany?
You feeling lonely?
You're not the only

Is everything alright?
You feeling stormy?
You feeling phony?
You're not the only

Surprised no one's mentioned one of the grandest anthems of late-twentieth century pop:
Thunderclap Newman's "Something in the Air". This has majesty, power, inspiration and it's about breaking through/winning.  (Suitably adapted):

"Call out the Villa players
Because there's something in the air
We've got to get together sooner or later
 'Cos the revolution's here
And you know that it's right...
And you know that it's right...

We have got to win it together...
We have got to win it together... Now!"

(Perhaps 'Randy Lerner' could be substituted for 'revolution' by our more conservative fans...)

Look, I want "The Bells are Ringing" as much as anyone else over 44 years of age, but getting the youth to sing it is  as difficult as it would be if your mom were telling you it should be 'Distant Drums' by Jim Reeves.
