Not a goal this but a whole day of celebration - thats Everton away, last game of the season of the 89-90 season.

I think we took about 7000 up and the atmosphere and constant singing was unbelievable.  Hot day, great game, Cowans curling free kick to put us ahead and the emotional send off for SGT about 30 minutes after the final whistle.

One of those days that you were proud to be part of.

Bosco Jancovic for Boro winning the league for us when I thought we'd thrown it away, Peter Withe in Rotterdam but the real one that did it for me was the fourth at Hillsborough in 1975? when we beat them 4-0 to gain promotion to the old first division after years in the doldrums.  It was when the fourth went in I knew we were going to win. ( you never know with the Villa!) After all the shit I'd witnessed to be back in the big time was special. I can't even remember the scorer.

Gary Shaw's equaliser v Barcelona, Super Cup 1983. Seven minutes from time, packed Holte End.

Very sweet given the tactics of a talented Barcelona side.

Strange...I'd have thought Ashley Young's winner away to Everton a couple of seasons ago might have warranted a mention....

Yeah, there's usually a video of it knocking about somewhere on a thread like this...

Oooh! Oooh! Me! Me!

Ahem:

Bloody brilliant.

Andy Lochhead's first goal for us. He went a long time before getting his first, and it came as a massive relief.

I think it was against Doncaster at VP, and it was a looping header into the Witton End goal which seemed to take forever to nestle in the top of the net.

A special mention for Dave Simmons, the first skinhead player, for his goal against the Blues. Also Bruce Rioch's goal at The Sty.

Garry Parker's pen against Man City.

Remind me?

Err... as I recall, it was the game where we were neck-and-neck with Manure and despite City fans wanting us to win, we were doing our best to throw away the points.

We got a pen - I think Keith Curle tried to catch the ball in his own box. Parker took the kick, I couldn't watch, in fact I turned my back on it because I knew I could see the result on everyone else's face.

It went mental, even the City fans celebrated.

Topped off with a rare Ray Houghton goal IIRC, a lob in the dying moments.

Most of the best ones have already been covered, so I'll go for a more recent one: JC's goal that put us - 3-2 up at Reading in the cup after being 2-0 down. Not the easiest game on paper, but a favourable enough draw compared to some of the others available - or so you'd think.

We looked like we'd gobbed a semi final place though, in true Villa style.

Didn't get visibly angry, or start ranting as their first and then second goal went in. Just sat there stewing in my own juices. Then we got our first back, a bit better. The second, more relief than anything else. For the third -and for a reason I'm still not quite sure of- it all went a bit Temuri Ketsbaia at Chez Gage, as I started booting my own leather couch.

I couldn't celebrate Dalian's goal against Tranmere, I was squashed up against a crush barrier being bear-hugged by the foulest, sweatiest, fattest fan ever!

I'm gonna put forward a Tony Daley goal vs Manchester City at Christmas 1991. I havent seen it for years so i'll have to dig out the old video. Anyway, if memory serves there's a flick on from Cyrille Regis and Daley hits it on the volley in front of the Holte. A bit like Krancjar's goal on Saturday. Quality goal and the whole ground went beserk.

Savo's equalizer at home to Newcastle in 1997 after we were 2-0 down. A pity then that Yorke blew the chance to make it 3-2 when he shot his penalty tamely at Shaka Hislop to deny us the victory. Bittersweet emotions from that game.

Must have seen hundreds of Villa goals in watching them for 50 odd years, but if i had to pick one it would have to be Pat Mcmahons winner against Man Utd in the league cup semi final at villa park in 1970 . It took us to Wembley which for a 3rd division team was unbeliveable . Dont forget this was a united team including Law.Best,Kidd and Charlton. If i recall it correctly United also scored first.

Pat McMahon's header aginst Man U in 1970 League cup semi
Andy Gray's header v Liverpool in the 1976 5-1 thrashing
John Deehan's first against QPR in the 1977 League Cup semi
Andy Gray's first of a hat trick against the Albion in 1977
Des Bremner away at Leicester in 1981
Peter Withe latching on to a last minute back pass from Brendon Batson in 1981 - truly awesomely mental
Pat Heard's last minute wonder strike at the Albion in 1982
Peter Withe in Rotterdam
Peter Withe at the Sty in 1982 a few days after Saunders had joined them
Sid's headed equaliser v Juventus in 1983
Dalian's in the 1994 League cup final
Savo's howitzer in the 1996 final
Lee Hendrie's air shot and follow up at Anfield in 2001
Gary Cahill's against the Blues in 2006
Carew's opener v Blues in the 5-1 demolition
Zat Knight's humdinger v Arsenal in 2008

Sorry for the long list but they are keeping me warm and fuzzy in Shanghai where we have snow and no central heating (not compulsory in buildings in the southern half of China, so landlords skimp and don't install it).

Funny how so many of my favourites are so long ago...

Your namesake's goal at the top of the list, Pat: was that the one where he was very brave and was on the ground injured for a while after scoring, or is my memory playing tricks on me?
