Don't know why Kevin "Bumfluff" Phillips is chipping in with his worthless opinions on this.

Played for Villa, played for the Mackems, same position as Bent. Apart from that, you're right, totally irrelevant.

From ESPN/Sport

Bent's Villa move expected to go through on Tuesday

Darren Bent has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career
Darren Bent's £24 million whirlwind transfer to Aston Villa will be completed on Tuesday barring any last-minute hiccups according to ESPNsoccernet sources close to the shock Sunderland sale.

Bent is concluding personal terms after the £18 million transfer - rising to £24 million with add-ons - was agreed between the clubs, and on Sunday evening the player confirmed his desire to go by submitting a transfer request immediately after the derby game with Newcastle.

ESPNsoccernet's source close to the deal said on Monday night: "I cannot tell you the precise geographical location of Darren at this moment, but the player has been in talks with Aston Villa in the Midlands over personal terms and the transfer is progressing in the right direction.

"The terms of the deal between the clubs is agreed and I see no reason to suppose the deal won't go through very quickly."

While neither manager Steve Bruce nor Sunderland are happy, they will not stand in the player's way. Bruce confirmed the story to ESPNsoccernet and said: "I'm disappointed but that's the way it is."

A club statement on Monday afternoon read: "The club can confirm that it received a written transfer [request] from Darren Bent following yesterday's Wear-Tyne derby match."

Asked recently about the prospect of selling any of his star players, Bruce had said: "It would take crazy offers for me to consider anything. The ones who are out on loan are the ones where I would envisage there would be a bit of business to be done but, as for the big 'uns we have got, we have worked extremely hard, the chairman and the owner, to get the club in this situation, so the last thing you would want to be doing is dismantling it.

"It would take ridiculous money, absolutely, for us even to think about doing anything."

Like the Mr Potato Head said ,ridiculous Money.....but I ain,t complaining if Bent,s ' da Man '.......Godzvilla!

I want it go through, but It's a whopping amount of money.

Still, In Randy we trust.

I feel the same for just about any transfer when it gets this close. But, yeah, that amount of money? Hmmmm.

The barber round the corner from me is the spit of Phillips.
Much like him, he sit's on a bench looking bored,  waiting for a couple of minutes of action.

Did Bent play against us in the recent 0-1, if he did, I don't recall him doing much (perhaps he knew then he was coming ?)

Can we just end the season now, we're out of the bottom 3, we're spending shed loads on a quality striker, I don't want us to play any more games to shatter my optimism.

Is signing a player like Bent a better feeling than actually winning a game ?

Looking at this site over the last 24 hours, I think that it must be.

Alan aren't you the one who posted yesterday that Sunderland had rejected the transfer request?  It had us all scrambling around desperately for information to the contrary.  Sure it was you.  If so what is your problem with Villa signing Darren Bent?  You seem intent on undermining this deal.   Why would you be happy if it doesn't go through as you have said you would be?

Another thing to look at is that we've done to Sunderland what Man City have done to us twice.

Exactly, and if Milner is worth £26m then Bent is worth £20m+.

No footballer is worth £18m (plus £3.5m per year in wages) but we aren't living in the real world here, it's a world of billionaires and egos.

I'm glad we've got Randy, who seems to have a decent grip on reality, but in no other real world business would someone gamble so much on something that doesn't guarantee a return on the investment.

I hope for Randy's sake alone we win some silverware, because he deserves it for what he has done this week.

I like what Mat Kendrick just tweeted.

He said MON could have signed an £18m striker in August 2009, but he decided to buy 3 defenders, to replace the 3 he'd previously signed.
