I don't want this to go wrong now, I for one am really excited. Villa have never spent this much on a player before. Its a sign of intent to me, Everyone was saying were skint and now were buying (hopefully) two quality players in a week!

I must say, yes I did doubt Houllier but I never doubted Randy and that's the truth

This will quite a coup if we've pulled it off.  I'm stunned, just stunned.  Sunderland did well to get him, although it was easier then as he was out of favour at Spurs.  Bent is one of Sunderland's best players, and they're riding high on the back of his goals.

I hope neither of downing , or ash depart , I think  bent will thrive off ash and downing .I also think either of them.moving the other way will take the shine off , this is supposing bent signs of course .

Has Stan forgot about Walker and Makoun then?

If the Bent goes deal goes through he'll be our third new player through the door (four including Cummings). That will be £24 million and rising committed this window even if we do nothing else.

With confirmed interest in Adam and Warnock being frozen out, it looks like that could well go past the £30 million mark this Jan.

He's not stupid, Stan. But sometimes he should engage his brain a bit more before opening his gob.

He's not the worst though, just heard some legendary backtracking from Mark Lawrenson re; the club being broke and that being the reason MON walked out.
"They should have given that money to Martin, then there wouldn't have been an issue."

The money was always there, you doughnut.

They still don't get it, do they?

Yes this is big for the club, not just a more than decent player added and a new hero, but a real statement of intent.

I'm very happy, hopefully if it's done tomorrow the attendance against Citeh will swell with two debutants in the team.

Ive never been so shocked and excited by a transfer, totally out of the blue.  This is the boost we have all needed, hope it goes through tomorrow or I'll be getting sacked!!

As well as signing Darren Bent we're also getting LeBron James too. 2 for the price of 1 - awesome!

Haven't read through the thread so don't know if it's been mentioned but on the local news this evening (I say 'local' but Sunderland really isn't local to Harrogate) it was reported that Bent handed in a transfer request in the summer but the club persuaded him to withdraw it. Sunderland supporting mates have said he has looked hopelessly out of touch this season so that may have something to do with his earlier transfer request. Or, of course it could be that he is hopelessly out of touch.

£18 million plus for Darren Bent. Football has officially gone fucking bonkers.

As Doug used to say: "Wait until the ink is dry on the contract".

If it happens, I'll be delighted.

Possibly 3 if the rumours are true.  A few ITK's suggesting that Charlie Adam will be in  a Villa shirt by the end of the week.  Exciting times.....

Saunders and collymore were exciting signings at the time but we knew about them - this is a swoop and shocked and excited me more- I was desperate to sign him when he left spurs but this will be fantastic for the club- real lift for everyone and I'm thrilled for the fans, manager and randy- please general come back and take the plaudits.
