If it happens, it's a STUNNING deal - Houllier MUST have the board's total support, so the least we can do is get right behind him!!

Rumours of his mother being racially abused by Sunderland fans after a defeat, but whether this has any bearing I don't know.
Maybe Randy and Hotlips just persuaded him that we are a better long-term prospect than them?

He also had his car smashed up in Newcastle by Toon 'fans'.

Losing Ashley Young would really take the shine off ithis n my opinion.  I know we've still got Albrighton and Downing, but Young's main problem is that he's never had a reliable striker as a target for his end product.  If we sell him for say £20m to Spurs and buy Bent for £18m, I think we'd be marginally stronger as a team, but I wouldn't be happy about it.  Considering we've sold Milner in the summer, to lose our two best players wouldn't be good business.

Wait until he meets the unwashed down the road then.

Imagine a midfield and forward line of:

Albrighton/Downing Makoun Adam Young
Gabby Bent

That would possibly be the most exciting, well balanced forward six we've had in years and years.

Excited.  (Which means that I'll be even grumpier than usual when it all goes wrong, but I'll enjoy it for the moment!)

Throw in Delph, Bannan, Weimman, Delfouneso and Gardner into the picture too, and it looks even better

I'd rather spend the money abroad than buy someone we should have got 18 months ago for 50% more than he cost then. Having watched Luksa Podolski who cost 10million Euros* score for FC Köln yesterday, it shows quite how overpriced English footballers inexplicably are.
Can this be counted as the 'He's shit' comment, we usually get when a player is mentioned ?
No, not at all. I used to think he was and possibly would have said that a few years ago, but I think he's a natural striker and the first English player that came to mind as gabby skied his (nicely created) chance in the first minute yesterday.

I just don't understand the astronomical fees for English players. Back in the day, when you had to have a certain number of British players for European competitions maybe, but for all the posturing about the rules changing to something like that again now, I don't see it happening and so don't understand it.

Looks like when he went to Sunderland, it was up to £16.5mill and the rumoured initial fee was nearer £10mill.

The media will say we have to sell Young now as it fits in with their idea that Randy has got no money.

Just hope it convinces Ashley to stay now to totally bollox up that notion.

Major tip of the hat to Mr Dave Woodhall for the link last night!!!

Clearly big decision for sunderland now but obviously Bent is not happy at Sunderland following the arrival of Gyan. Slight worry is he does seem to move clubs often but he is exactly what we need at the moment.

Randy has restored my faith with this bid. Transfer fees were never the issue with O'neill. It was about wages being outlayed every week on players who werent being played beye reo-coker sidwell but to name a few.

If bent arrives carew will go along with sidwell and possibly warnock to pay the wages. Good sense from the club.

I've never doubted Randy Lerner.

I wouldn't have trusted MON with £18m.

MON could have got Keane and McGeady for that money. What is this fool doing buying a first rate striker when we could have got two duffers instead. If Houllier gets to spend that sort of money on Bent then it will just show how RAL had lost his confidence in MON's transfer dealings.

The game against Blose on Sunday was as clear a demonstration as you could hope for that our team is in dire need of a striker. Even with Heskey we look more like the business, but a proven professional of the calibre of Bent should dramatically improve our position in the League.

fook you  , the lot of you...

Totally agree - fuck all of them and MON

Well done Randy, Houllier and lets not forget the business side in Mr Paul Faulkener

IT just goes to show that i would rather we do our business like this than the spivs at Spurs and co spouting their collective traps off in the press

I am very very excited - this guy has a superb scoring record
