What a splendid way to start a match, Archie! Very civilised! But it's a shame that you eliminated those nice Celtic boys.

I am quite a regular at Udine as there is always a great, not intimidating (I'd say a very "British")  atmosphere at the stadium.
But Udinese is not my team, and, as the Villa's father foundators were Scottish  I use to support the Scottish teams when thay play in Italy, so  I supported the Bhoys,  Frank.
Today I was a bit deluded, though.
Celtic fans  are 99% Irish (a fact that tragically reminded me of Richard Dunne even in this occasion ;)) and only 1% Scottish.
Obviously, I have nothing against Ireland and the Irish, au contraire in 1990 I supported their National team in Italy and Paul Mc Grath is my hero.

But I remember then when I attended  Bologna / Heart of Midlothian in 1990 there was a massive contingent of Hearts supporters with kilt and bagpipes, and the atmosphere in the city was very friendly and much more thrilling.  8)
I expected something like that, whereas the  Bhoys at Udine made as their most original contribute the City's Lech Poznan dance. . .   :-[

History lesson for pedants. Our founders weren't Scots - they were a mixture of locals and a couple of Welshmen. The Scots started with George Ramsay two years later.

Thank you Dave. It' s a privilege the possibility that we have on this beautiful forum to exchange ideas with Villans from all over the world, and with people like you and John Lerwill that have written books about the club and his proud history!
So, I'll correct my sentence saying that I have a sympathy for the Scots due to the predominant role that the Scottish contingent of the club played in the early days, is it correct?

And as far as George Ramsay is concerned, I have read that he was noticed because he astonished with his skills the team that was practicing at Aston Park!

At the Stadio Friuli for Udinese Celtic (the scarf has been chosen because has a reminiscence of the first historical Villa shirt).

I don't mean that they are from Ireland, but that they have Irish roots.

Obviously I may be wrong.
It's the impression that I had seeing them alive, and comparing the Celtic fans with the Heart fans that I saw in Bologna.

But, please note that Celtic fans are very friendly, loyal and passionate. Gret fans. The only thing that i have noticed is that they don't seem Scots.
Even all their flags are Irish.

VENICE - ITALY

Memories of a fantastic day-out in the beautuiful and quite unique  scenario of Venice and its canals, with Alan, the Lions Clubs Legend and a special friend for me, the former Villa player and top bloke Garry Thompson (two goals vs. the Blue Nose in the old 2nd. Division),  and Frank, a longlife Villa-fan and another great friend of mine.

What's Frank doing with his hand there?

It looks remarkably like the traditional salute from Villa fans to Noses. ;)

BTW Archie that bike in one of the pics, do you really ride that around Rome?
If so you are either very brave or you have a death wish!
