Was also told that he seems a nice enough fella but has an unusually large head for his stature, make of that what you will.  I've not seen the chap with his pen & contract myself, but then I don't work at Bodymoor Heath.  Guessing it will be officially confirmed over the weekend.

Great. We've signed Sam Allardyce.
Any word from your source on Makoun?

Everybody seems to be saying the same, and it's all public.

If/when he does sign, won't he also need a work permit too?

L'Equipe quoting him as saying 'i'm ecstatic, Aston Villa was always my priority' or words to that effect.

Quote
If the transfer of Jean II Makoun is not official yet, this is only a matter of hours, minutes. While waiting to sign his contract for three and a half, the middle Cameroonian told her happiness to join England, Saturday at Progress. "Aston Villa was my priority, "said future ex-Lyonnais. I'm ecstatic. " According to L'Equipe the day, Makoun should not be able to play with his new teammates in Sunday's derby against Birmingham City, but rather the week next face Manchester City

Villa will today finally complete the signing Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun after the player arrived in Birmingham last night to undergo a medical.

With an initial fee of £5m agreed, there had been a slight concern the deal might collapse because of a difference in opinion of wages.

But the Cameroon international’s agent and Villa’s representatives finally reached agreement over personal terms and he is set to put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year contract.

Makoun will not be registered in time to face Blues tomorrow but he should receive clearance in time to face Manchester City next weekend.

And Houllier believes the 27-year-old will prove to be a valuable asset to the claret and blues.

“He is exactly what we need in an area where we are not blessed with numbers,” said Houllier.

“Because he can win the ball back, he can sit in front of the defence and he can also be a box-to-box player – he is a versatile player.

“He is not the biggest in size but he is very good in the air when he leaps. He is a very experienced player and has played in the Champions League with Lille and Lyon on a regular basis.

“I was afraid (Villa might not get him) because since he came back into the team Lyon have moved from 18th position to fourth.”

Houllier also hit back at claims by Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry that Villa had made an “insulting offer” for goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

Villa denied making a formal bid for the player and Houllier confessed he had not even heard of the former England Under-21 shot-,stopper.

“I was in France so I just got to hear about that and without disrespect to the player, the only Joe Lewis that I knew before Barry Fry had this outburst was the boxer Joe Louis!” said Houllier.

“I have never bid or made an enquiry with the club.”
