IF and i know it is a big IF that report is correct why would we offer less than he is earning at Lyon - maybe I am missing something but that would be just stupid and I hope we are not that stupid to be honest
Maybe he's already on silly money. Or maybe Houllier thinks he's worth only x amount. Or, perhaps more likely, Lerner has set a budget on transfer fees and wages for players signed this January.

I wouldn't have thought wages in French football were that high compared to English.

If Makoun was on, or was expecting, silly money, wouldn't we have clarified that with his agent first?

Isn't that what clubs do these days, rather than going through the "can we agree a transfer figure" then "can we now speak to him" process?

Well I am speculating. Maybe a club that's regularly in the CL can afford comparable wages? Who knows?

Yes, we've probably upped his wages a bit

The more this transfer drags on, the more I can't help thinking it has "Berson" written all over it.

It hasn't really dragged on for long at all though has it?

It just seems like it has because of the speculation that we might be interested which go back months.

If it has been done, it's been fairly swift. Only a concrete link about two weeks ago. GH in France Tues/Weds to speak to the player, today's Friday.
