Makoun is a quality player, he is like Petrov and NRC put together!
Can't run, can't pass?

I think signing Adam and Makoun would improve our midfield. Neither are exactly top quality, but combined will make up for the loss of Milner finally. They'd also make a good pair in CM.

We've got quality in midfield, we just need a solid base to get the best out of Downing, Ash and Albrighton.

Where I think we need a bit of luck in getting some top quality, is up front. We're seriously lacking in a top class forward. That'll be a hard task sadly.

A couple of decent defenders to solidify the backline would be good too. Then I think we could get back to where we were last season, with or without Houllier.

Looks like he's decided to stay in Lyon

http://www.lyoncapitale.fr/lyoncapitale/journal/univers/Sport/Football/Makoun-voudrait-rester-a-Lyon

first paragraph

Quote
According to our information, while Jean Makoun was on the verge of leaving Lyon on Wednesday, the Cameroonians have finally decided to stay at Lyon until at least the end of the season (Article updated 18:30).

Would it still be a turnaround unique transfer market and his incredible antics? While the transfer of Jean II Makoun appeared to act, it seems that all is far from being tied. If Lyon and Aston Villa, as we announced on Wednesday, are agreed on the amount of the transaction, Cameroonian, he, according to our information, would no longer necessarily inclined to leave the club to that of Rhone the city of Birmingham. Indeed, the formation led by Gerard Houllier in the depths of the Premier League standings (18th), does not sport the same guarantees that Claude Puel.

More pressure on the boss. No signings and a tonking on Sunday, then it's goodbye Gerard. No point backing him if his list say NON!

Let's hope this is not true, but being 1 point off the bottom, we don't exactly look a very attractive proposition at the moment.

Now considering the window has been open for nearly two weeks (or a good week of business days) i'd had hoped we would have had more signings by now, especially when GH went to Lyon to speak to him. Maybe I am way out of it but I thought we would have got a decent French signing from the former TD of the FFF. I know these things take time and January isn't the best month to get players in, not to worry though, still 17.5 more days to go!

If the guy is too myopic to factor in where we have been for the last three seasons and how bright a future we have with some of the quality players we have at the club, then i wouldn't want him anyway. Form is temporary, class is permanent.
