If he's so good then why are Lyon prepared to let him go when they've qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League?

As I unerstand it he was a favourite of the previous coach who signed him, but their new gaffer doesn't want to use him as much.  Whether that's a tactical or personality thing, or if he just doesn't rate him, I don't know.

John M, wish you'd do research before making statments which are not true. Claude Puel was his previous coach at Lille and is the one who purchased him. Lyon want to sell because of financial constraints. I posted his quotes about the impending departure on the previous page.

Yeah John, you shouldn't have anything better to do than research prospective Villa signings.

I saw the same comment and thought it was pretty odd considering that they are CL knockout stage regulars. Cynical old me is concerned there may be more to it than balance sheets. I just hope he's not another Mattieu Berson.

Normally I'd apologise when I got something wrong, but I don't like your patronising tone so I won't.

I remember that saga. It was all will he/won't he for what seemed like months, then we signed him and he hardly ever played. Seems quite funny now actually, we were a bit desperate at the time.

Salifou will have to give up his squad number if Makoun signs. Makoun wears 17 in honour of his close friend, the late Marc-Vivien Foe.

Salifou has a squad number? A bit like Stephen Hawking having a skipping rope.

brilliant sir.

Aye, probably won't be able to do that until next season though. Maybe he'll wear 71 until then?

The last player we got from Lyon went on to be our top scorer over the next 3 years, Makoun is a quality player, he is like Petrov and NRC put together!
