Good Win, more comfortable than a lot of people are making out.  Very enjoyable day all round and Sheffield certainly isn't a s**t hole - great pubs (certainly the three I was in anyway), thanks to Drummond and Joe's mate for the local knowledge.

Probably would have done more pubs but for Joe C's profound statement:

"We have a seat, there's the bar, we haven't tried all of the beers yet."

Can't argue with that logic.
sounds very sensible indeed

I thought we looked very comfortable in the first half but playing Pires was a mistake. The way the Sheff Utd defence were looking, i'd have changed it for Fonz and we might have had the game sewn up in the first half..

Second half they got the early goal they need and we looked nervous. Petrov should have put the game to bed with his one on one before he did but luckily it ended up ok.

I was impressed by what i saw of Walker, but like a few others have said, let's reserve judgement until he's play in the Prem. Let's hope this gives the players confidence going into the Derby.

Good day all round, it was nice to go to an old football ground again. The £2.26 a pint in Rotherham went down well too.

To be honest, I have remained  impressed less than zero by the game, yesterday.
Yes, we have won against an average team of championship, but we conceded a goal, and definitely suffered like beasts until the 90°.
The only difference with the previous matches is that GH played a full back, not a CB, as a right back, and Agbonlahor forward and not on the flank.
These are two steps ahead.
But we are still far from being the team that I'd like AVFC were.

The comments from people who weren't there sum up all the recent posts. Clueless.

We were comfortable winners today, there were inevitable periods of pressure from the opposition but we were the better team and won.

I was there. Most of the people that have knocked the performance weren't within 80 miles.

Well I watched it on the radio and I thought we were terrible.

But did you watch it on the radio  within or outside the 80 miles ?

Fair comments  but we are learning to walk again after breaking both legs ..so step at a time.

Still puzzled by Gabby playing  very left sided role yesterday, looked a bit short up front at times ?? or is that just me?

Seemed obvious even to Ashley Young. He applauded the fans as he trotted off the pitch only to be told he was staying on.

I recall MON saying something along the lines that Young likes to play every minute of every match and gets annoyed if he doesn't.

Well. let's hope that brings a bit of confidence back.  Although thinking about it, it could be very similar to the West Ham game on the opening day.  We looked good then but have since realised just how poor the opposition were.

Walker looks confident and likes to get forward.  Hope he does not get undone by PL opposition who may look at getting in behind him.

Gabby really needs a goal but I don't know where one is going to come from.  He really is disinterested at times and I do not think it was tactics that put him out wide left late on, I think he went out there with the ball and just couldn't be bothered getting back in the middle.

Bannan showed some nice touches which we know about but as has been said, seems to get overpowered in a two man midfield.

Ashley, well what can I say.  He had that manner about him yesterday which made me feel that he was going to get into bother.  Don't know what it was, but I just felt that he was going to get a red card and thus miss the Blues match. Various times in the match he seemed to pull out of challenges and then himself dive in at their players. Other than the goal he set up he was very poor and if you look, he actually jumps out of the way when the ball is played up to him as he knows the defender is coming in.  He then chases the defender and deliberately brings him down, knowing he is on a yellow.

It will be interesting to see what the formation is next sunday, let's hope there are a couple of new faces who, if they bring the same enthusiasm as Walker, will liven the team up no end.

I didn't realise that Walker was so tall, that will bode well for defending corners etc.

Bloody good player, how the hell can we convince Spuds that he's actually shite and get him cheap?

Walker could be a real risk and for an idea of this look no further than Liverpool. We could be in a very similar situation that Johnson and Carragher have got into on many occasions as Walker bombs forward we're caught out on the break with Dunne not possessing the pace and stamina to keep up with the counter.

Either pick defenders who actually defend or get get fitter centre halves.

Or alternatively enjoy watching a skilful young player who plays exciting, attacking football.

You're probably right but it was just nice to see someone play without fear, with energy and zest and seemingly to appear to enjoy playing.

He'll soon get that knocked out of him if the training is as bad as some of the senior pro's would have us believe.
