A good win in the end, with great goals. I don't think that performance would have won a PL game but we're in the hat for the 4th round and that is the only thing that mattered today. I'm relieved.
Summed up nicely I reckon.
Agreed. Sheff Utd were possibly the worst team I've seen in years and we made hard work of it. It really should have been a walk in the park, as it never really felt like a cup tie. They seemed resigned to losing from kick off. Our confidence is completely shot.

Feel really sorry for Gabby, the service he's used to has completely dried up and at this rate looks the most unlikely player to score. Why can't we get a first time ball into the box rather than pissing about with it or pulling it back and giving the opposition time to get players back? We did it once today and Albrighton scored. We're not creating enough chances. First half we only created three. I doubt the second half was much better.

Petrov's goal showed the gulf in class, Sheff Utd were there for the taking but we just (with the exception of Walker) completely lack the confidence to go out and show how good we can be.

There are a lot of people that need to get a grip.

It's obvious that most of the senior players don't want to play for GH.

It's obvious that most of the senior players are & where due to be overhauled anyway.

It's obvious the junior players are keen to play for GH.

It's obvious the team will not click until enough senior players have been brought in by GH.

It seems a few would rather keep the lazy useless players, that have suddenly forgotten what a football is and what position they used to be good at and get rid of the manager.

I'd rather get rid of the lazy useless players and see what the next crop of Villa players can do for the team.

Spot on.  Whats the alternative anyway?  A new manager in a week to two?  He will have to deal with players who are reacting to not having their way and have seen off one manager who tried to sort them out.  What chance would he have? It would be, "do as we say, or we will get you the sack".

Well done Villa and Houllier. All our goals were fantastic. Good to see a bit of a backs to the wall defensive display after Ash went off. That will give the players confidence.

Well done Ged.

I think it was an O'Neill like performance.

We always struggled against these teams under MON too.

I am hoping that the win, the first for a while, will generate some confidence and inspre the team and the fans for Blose and beyond.

For those looking at Championship football with rose tinted spectacles, look again - just think, we'd be playing Sheff Utd type teams every single weak, they aren't easy to beat and raise their game against a 'bigger' club.

ok we won.  but if we had been playing anyone else of a better calliber than sheff united such as leeds we would of lost that game.
Totally irrelevant.
We did enough to beat a poor Championship side.
THE THING IS WE DIDNT PLAY ANY BETTER THAN WE DID AGAINST SUNDERLAND,  ONLY THING IS THAT THE OPPONENTS WE POOR,  IF WE PLAY LIKE THAT ON SUDNAY WE ARE FUCKED, BUT I HOPE WE DO AND THAT WAY HOULLIER GETS THE SACK.

PS.  HOULLIER WAS TOLD TO SIGN THAT PLAYER BY THE SCOUTS,  HOULLIER CANT TAKE THE CREDIT
By the way! Is your username correct? isn't pmk2001?

Remember the days when this thread was about what actually happened in the game? We even had player ratings.

Now we get post after post of the 'oh, yes he did', 'oh, no he didn't' variety which just totally ruins it for everyone else...

Isn't that the idea of a scouting system? And if GH set it up, he should receive credit.

I have serious doubts about McAllister, but i'd bet money on the fact that it was he who recommended Walker.

Richard, that is one of the reasons why the Post-Match thread was split into two parts a few seasons ago (I cannot remember the exact titles), but it was condensed back in to one after numerous complaints.
