We were pathetic really. A player comes up from the Championship and looks a world beater among our lot. Bit concerned by his ball watching at times but Walker did look great on the ball today. Was happy with Clark and Albrighton also. Bannan is a good player when given time and space but in a two man midfield I dont think he will ever get that to be honest. Some of the others were woeful. Young dived out of every physical confrontation as did Downing when he came on. Any of you also see when Pires lost the ball in the first half, Gabby turned away in disgust. The side is rotten to the core at the moment. Players laughing and joking with one another. Waving arms and not bothering putting in an honest effort.

To be fair in Petrov's cameo he showed the player I thought we had signed from Glasgow Celtic. Bursting into the box like that and scoring. Sad to see how far Sheff Utd have fallen and yet we were only marginally better at best.

We were motoring until they got awarded that penalty that wasn't I think the heads went down then just glad they put it to bed in the end.Not sure how much confidence we'll take from this and GUTTED Ashley is out for Blose despite what anyone says we need him especially against Blose who seem to be growing in confidence all the time

Hes a proper RB though MF, and at least GH acknowledges a proper RBs importance.

Midfield lost their way 2nd half tbh, although i thought the back 4 coped quite well.

Considering the opposition, AYoung and Gabby far too quiet again.

If we can get Bridge in for next Sunday, we could play Clark and Cuellar at the back.

Friedel

Walker
Cuellar
Clark
Bridge

Albrighton
Petrov
Bannan
Reo Coker
Downing

Gabby

That team could beat the Blose.

I could have mentioned the positives, but, as things stand, I'm not really thinking all that positively about Villa at the moment, funnily enough.

Have you ever?

With Young and Heskey missing against the Dog Shit, I think Houllier will have to try and get Carew geared up for one last hurrah.
We're paying him enough after all.

Christ, the psychology of it all is amazing isnīt it? A young kid who has spent the last few months used to winning every week gets us going.
Winning and comfortable, a dodgy decision goes against us, two if you count the Young red card and suddenly clearing the ball for a throw or a corner is a success. Until the death when that confident, fearless loanee again drives forward, gets Albrighton and Petrov showing what theyīre capable of and we score one of the goals of the season. Why canīt we fecking see a bit more of this?!

Our players are still conditioned to the MON way of playing except weīre now a lot more unsure, disorganized and more frail defensively. If Houllier wants to get us passing and moving I think heīll struggle with a lot of these players. Itīs not that they canīt - most of them are well able to do it, but they either donīt believe in G-Hou or just arenīt confident enough to stray from their comfort zone (Ashley Young a case in point - heīll never look to come between defenders and go centrally, or look for a one-two. Itīs always feint and hold and feint and overhit the cross or else look to draw the foul so we can get the big lads up for a free-kick.) This will either lead to us buying and selling a lot over the next six months or the manager leaving, and given the boardīs backing of him lately, the former is probably more likely.

5) 1-3 flatters us. It could so easily have been 2-2, or worse.

This is the only point I don't really agree with. We had more posession, more shots on target and apart from the penalty we never looked that troubled at the back.

Pretty average performance, walker did ok, but it was Sheffield untied, he has no prem experience.

Gabby looks a shadow of himself and is no where near as fast as last season.

But results is what counts and we won, so well done lads.

Pretty awful.

We learnt nothing from that.

The only player who had a good game (Walker) was the one GH hasn't had time tohave an influence over.

It's just delaying the inevitable.

Play like that next week and we'll lose comfortably.

We win 3-1 away from home and you still manage to put a negative spin on it. Really, is there any aneed?

You clearly can't have watched the game.

You clearly can't look at things objectively.

???

We played very poorly against a poor side in a division lower. How should I be looking at it?

We got the job done, scored some good goals, our new signing looked very good we are step closer to Wembley. Yes there are still blatantly things that need work but come on see the other side of things a get behind the team. This could easily have been a massive banana skin.

The first sentence is ludicrous, you cannot be pathetic and win.

Petrov is always going to be a good player If you bring him on for 30 minutes, I just think his days of starting and playing the whole match are long gone.

Doesn't need to be profound, it's right.
