I must admit i had never heard of James Joyce before i read that article now i might have to go out and get one of his books to read out of curiosity.
Best of luck with finishing it.

DH Lawrence is the only major literary figure to write a competent account of a football match and the philosophy involved in Kangaroo his last novel. Read it years ago and not a dirty reference in it..mistook it for a bestial version of Lady Chatterley...one of the more knowledgeable experts will have to find the excerpt if you want to enjoy now..
DHL was not a villa fan to my knowledge being from Eastwood he was more likely a Forest fan...no evidence for this though I'm afraid.

Then there is the bit in To the Lighthouse where Virginia soliloquises on the musculature of a young defender showing off his sliding tackle...naah Lawewnce is enough for one day..

I wonder what Dave McKay said to the 'innocent' Billy Bremner?

No Joycean quotes yet though.
