Does anyone know what the committe judges the bids on? Surely we need to know this parameter before we can say a winner is justified or not.

With a proper, transparent bidding process, these parameters would have been obvious.  And any potetial bidder who did not meet the stated criteria could have saved themselves the time, money and humiliating grovelling.  But the process is non-transparent for a reason.  See Taylor's workrate's response  for the answer to that one.

BTW can anyone think of a legitimate, footballing reason why FIFA insist on bidders agreeing to removal of restrictions on currency movements during the tournament?  The only purpose it seems to serve is to allow FIFA officials to bring huge bags of cash in and out of the country.  Now why would they need to do that I wonder?

Not sure if this is a bad picture or not...
Nope, they seem to be basing their stadia on deleted sections of Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'.

I fully expect that in abourt 2019 the USA will be announced at host of 2022 when Qatar sheepishly announce that they can't actually invent all the things they've promised to invent in time.

The funny thing is I would've assumed FIFA would know better than to take a bunch of pictures as a bid, I would've thought a percentage of the bid had to actually exist. Granted Qatar exists and they have money...eveyrthing else is SimWorldCup.
Oh, don't say that. I've already got my bid for 2034 in the planning stages.

We're holding it in a helium stadium in the clouds over Mount Everest.

That is great, I can't wait to meet you!!

I will using my biologically refreshed 22 year old replacement body and will be called Eric Stein...hopefully I will be playing Midfield by then!

I am applying to have 2026 in my garden.

I can draw up some pretty good stadiums to be built and my sub-division is probably as large as some towns in Qatar...

OK you can but like Russia and Qatar bids you have to answer YES to all of these questions:

1. Do you have unimaginable sums of money all in a few chosen hands that you can lavish on our delegates?

2. Are you and your family  completely racist without any reason or sense?

3. Do you treat all foreign human beings  coming to your house either as dirty slaves or enemies?

4. Would you be able to ensure that all games are played   involving thousands of miles travelling for fans and teams?
5. Would you be able to ensure that all games are played in  temperatures touching  50 d C in sand stroms?

2030 The Moon.

The first weightless World Cup. The Clangers are keen to develop their own league.

Taking the game to new frontiers. Richard Branson to announce details of moon flights soon.

Apparently Alex Ferguson is already taking his Man United team there in January for the inter galactic cup.  They are going to have to pull out of the FA cup to do it but it'll make them bucket loads of cash.  Besides, the moon probably has more atmosphere than Old Trafford.

Sorry if this question has been posed already, but has anyone explained the timing of the Qater decision?  As far as I'm aware, they always decide on one World Cup venue at a time, which mean you always know when the one after is to be before the next one kicks off, so to decide 12 years in advance is unusual to say the least.  When you factor in the shock nature of it and the fact they'll need more time than most countires to build the stadiums from scratch, does it not make you wonder it it was all arranged to suit them in the first place?

Pretty much John, yeah.

The air conditioning they've promised to have in place for the tournament hasn't even been tried with any success yet but 'trust us!' was concrete enough for FIFA.

"This says it all about the corrupt FIFA. When asked who his favourite Qatar player was, Sepp Blatter replied, Eric Clapton!"

My prediction: they will throw so much energy at refrigerating the stadia, at least one player will be wearing gloves before the end of the tournament

I read it was about Blatter wanting to name 2 hosts in one go, shortly before he retires, to boost his personal "legacy".

I might have imagined it, though.

I wonder what FIFA's carbon footprint is.

Taking aside that both Russia and Qatar are major oil producers and remote destinations for the majority of the footballing nations to get to what about the amount of energy required to cool stadiums and training facilities in a baking hot climate?

FIFA delegates are probably so heavily invested in Oil producing nations that the sight of Wind farms in England made them physically sick.

I reckon we are heading for a FIFA/UEFA split.

If that is the case then he's openly as self serving as we all thought.  even admitting that shows a "you can't touch me" attitude that is the core of FIFA's problems.
