Pires, Carew and Clark all start.
Brad, Young, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Pires, Downing, Clark, Bannan, Ash, Carew.
Ireland, Fonzy, Hogg etc on the bench

Probably what i'd have gone for, but maybe Ireland instead of Pires, not sure how long he can last at this level at 37.

Come on lads,if we show the same effort and confidence in our ability, like we did against Utd we can get a result. Up the Villa.

Maybe Houllier is banking on the immutable law of the ex.

Good chance for Ireland to come on after 65-70 and make an impact.

Of all the players we have Ireland is the last one I'd put down to give any impact the way his head is at the moment.

Not impressed with the team selection. Dont think Carew is capable of playing up top by himself. Arsenal will be able to play a very high line. Pires wont last more than an hour neither will Carew I'm thinking. Sure we live in hope. Come on the Villa.

Well, the only other choice is to play Fonz and M. Houllier clearly thinks he isn't ready. If we had Gabby maybe Carew wouldn't have played at all.

Pires starting is a good idea. People may worry about him over 90 minutes, but Arsenal are an 'easy going' team, so Pires' wont have to deal with any hustle and bustle, which will certainly help him. He's a real, real, player and will hopefully shine today.

The Fonz is more likely to get in goalscoring positions than any of our other strikers. Id like to have seen him start with Carew and attack where Arsenal are weak. I expect Pires will play centrally anyway with Young and Downing on the flanks. Just really hope Downing is on the left
