i've seen Villa play really poorly in the past. but Barry still looked absolute quality even so,
same goes for Milner, Young, even Petrov and a whole host of players from the past, but never Downing.
its not a difficult concept to understand, if you ever saw Le Tiss play, he was fantastic most weeks even when his team were rubbish,

if you dont agree with me thats fair enough, i just post honestly and not for effect, but if you dont understand what i'm saying, its not my fault

It's not your fault that you're wrong, but that doesn't mean you're not wrong.

As many league goals as Modric, Scholes, Fabregas, Milner, Wilshere, Lennon, and Joe Cole combined. As well as being one of our most dangerous players.

Yeah, he's been rubbish.

I always said he'd come good. In truth he's been better this season than I'd anticipated him ever getting.

Some people have dug themselves into a hole so deep they don't want to admit they were wrong.

If there's any justice in the world he should be in the England squad ahead of SWP, Lennon, Cole, A Young and others who have been nothing like as good this season. Think about all the times when he got caps he didn't seem to deserve when he was at Boro. He definitely deserves one now.

Wasn't a huge fan of Downing last season, but he's been immense so far this term easily our player of the season.

no one has said he has been rubish, there is a lot of hyperbole about him whenever he has a good game, where was he against blose, spurs, fulham?

Doing alright, but not great.

Whereas he has been doing great in lots of our other games this season. Which you seem to be ignoring.

i am not ignoring, he had a good game today, he did a couple of great things he also did a couple of not so great things like hitting the first defender with crosses, a couple of poor corners, gave the ball away early on that nearly cost us a goal but the movement and cross that he showed for our second was sublime

He's our player of the season thus far as far as I'm concerned.

He's looking every inch the £12 million we paid for him.

i'm obviously not his bigest fan,
but i feel a bit guilty of posting negative stuff on a day when we were superb, and Downing did play his part,
so even though i try to post with honest opinions, i appolagise for looking like i'm throwing a stick through the spokes.

i am really delighted by Villa's performance today, truly outstanding, overall one of the best in recent times.

i'm still far from convinced by him to be honest,

he tends to play reasonably well when the rest of the team do, in other words he gets carried away on a good team performance, he's not a player that imposes himself on a game when we are not on form

when we play poorly, so does he, he's definitley not a stand out player in my view. just does good on the back of others

today we were fantastic, and Downing was quite good,
but no where near brillaint,
he did put some decent balls in, one of which we scored from, but he often needs time and space to do it, whereas Albrighton seems to get the ball over from almost imposible angles even when the defender is breathing down his neck.

i will admit i have never rated him at his other clubs, and still dont, never wanted to sign him, and think we could have got better for the money

for 12 mill, we got a player who now and again does things of quality on the pitch, but no where near enough for me, i think we have some far superior players in the squad to him,
and i dont think he is a player that can be relyed on, especially when things are not going well

Conversely you could argue that when Downing plays well Villa plays well and when Downing plays poorly villa plays poorly.

As for the assist only coming because he was in space, Several times he turned Brown inside out and then got balls into the box. He also made space and had some good shots, the last of which everyone thought was in the net to make it 3-1 including the commentators. Unfortunately it just went over the bar.
