I'd agree with you Paulie if Ashley was doing the business, week in, week out. The fact is, he's hardly setting the world on fire, instead living on past glories. He's right on one thing, he needs to get his head down and concentrate on his own game. At the moment, he'd be no great loss.

He's our best player by a mile.

If the club don't show the correct ambition soon it will be Gabby next, then Albrighton, then Bannan...

He thinks hes our best player by a mile Chris, thats the problem. We have a manager that is telling him to show us now and not the last idiot who kept telling him he was world class.

I don't care about any of that, what I care about is us holding on to our better players. If every year we sell another one we're never going to progress. It's difficult for the club but we have to demonstrate to players that they can achieve their ambitions here.

We will never hold onto the best players unless we make it to the champions league, and we still wont hold onto them if Moneybags Citeh come knocking.
And we wont ever make it to the champions league to try and hold onto them while they keep leaving.
Modern football is so predictable.

I think anyone trying to say Ash has had his head turned by what Rooney has done is just "in denial". If Ash is looking at anyone then it is more likely to be Milner. This season is playing alongside world class players and in all likelihood will be playing champions league football next season, he may even have a championship medal to boot as well, all that AND being paid more for the privelege. The truth is out there and as the previous poster has said, it's so predictable.
Unfortunately, our star players leave in their prime like Platt, Yorke, Barry and Milner and all go on to have more success outside of villa park than they ever did within.
Modern football is indeed predictable. Football players don't owe their clubs or fans anything and football clubs don't owe their players anything. It's just business...
Ash will be part of a deal that finally brings Keane to villa park...Keane and a bit of dosh if we are lucky!

Chris is right, I would hope we'll dig our heels in on this one.
I've no desire to be a feeder club for Spurs.

spurs themselves were once a feeder club for those above them. How did they turn the tables?

A Young will be gone by the start of next season, end of. He's obviously been chatting to Milner and Barry lately. I predict he'll be at Citeh for the start of next season. He's obviously realised our likely 7th 8th place will not fulfil his ambitions. What price Albrighton at Citeh the year after?

Albrighton is a good prospect but talking about him signing for Man City are very premature, we used to hear similar stories about Steven Davis.

The cycle of selling and being a couple of players away (at best) is all I actually remember since the 1990's.  Building sides that were almost there and then having to take a few steps back.  As Chris said, it's up to the club to show they are 'ambitious' enough to pay our better players what they are being offered elsewhere (aside form City of course).  As the Rooney situation shows, 'ambition' is another word for money.  It's easier said than done but they have to start somewhere if we are serious about challenging the sides around /  above us.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves eh?

Why cant it be just as he said and that he'll leave contract negotiation until next summer?
Its fine by me. Theres no rush and if at the end of it all he wants out, fine.
I really hope he stays though.
He puts in plenty of effort and is a class player, one of our best in recent times.
Some of the criticism lately from Villa fans has been a disgrace to be honest.

Is exactly my opinion on the matter, lets wait and see eh?

He's given the club a fair chance and it hasn't provided him with any trophies or champs league footy. Players can't wait forever.

he didnt seem too interested out wide today but he transformed the team when put into the hole. He is a class player one of the best in the league, if he left which looks likely I must say it will be a bigger blow than Barry or Milner.

I'm not sure that there will be many teams who are willing to pay him more than us.

If he's on £7k per week, can't see Spuds, or Arse paying him more than that becauseof the potential dressing room disruption.

Can't see Ure or Chelsk going for him/

Citeeeh.......be surprised, Lplop, well if he an'ts to go there let him.

IMHO although Young is obviously talented, he is on the border of being over-rated.  He is not that dominant.  I think that he lacks a bit of "the finishing touch".

I'd like to see him with a climatized Ireland.  Ireland, Young and Gabby could be interesting.
