On the most part the Spurs fans I know are assholes. When it's going well they swagger around like they're shit doesn't stink. And when it doesn't go well it's doom and gloom of the highest order, as if because they're Spurs, they've a god given right for unadulterated success. Mostly cocky twats in my own experience. I have one mate who's a Spurs fan, but we don't particularly talk much about football, which probably benefits our friendship. Listening to Spurs fans talk about football is one of life's incessant bores.

A more deluded set of fans, you'd struggle to find to be honest.

I used to enjoy watching them play in the 90's, because they had some cracking individual talents worth watching. Klinsmann, Ginola, Postiga (tee-hee). But now, they just seem like a dodgy bunch of gangsters, working for their dodgy gangster manager. Fucking assholes!

A perfect summation....

They were the media faves in the 80s even more than they are now.
They can sign big name players and we can't.
They have overtaken us.

one word Jealousy

I do not hate them because I am jealous of them. I'm really very annoyed about this, because apart from a few of their players there is nothing about them that I wish was us, and players are hardly grounds for deep-seated hatred on the basis of jealousy, are they?

Well i am jealous of the fact that they made top four instead of us,
im jealous of the players they have and can attract.

And it damn well pisses me off with the last two years we have basically wasted with Oneil, granted i had two Wembley trips, but any decent manager would have took the huge oppurtunity to make top four.

If we all take a step back and look at the last couple of years the oppurtunity to make top four has been there, first with Arsenel and Last year with Liverpool.

We have been in contention both years and i am jealous because spurs did it and we never, but there is no team i would rather support than Villa regardless.

I think we are going to improve under Houllier even if we dont reach 6th again.

The way their bench terrorised the fourth official today (was it Attwell?) is a big indicator of the 'big-I-am' culture that surrounds the club at the present time. It's not much of a reason but just something I thought worth commenting on.

And for the record, for any interloping Spurs fans, I'm not jealous of you or your club. I made the right choice twenty-one years ago to be a Villa fan. You've been crap before and you'll be crap again, so make the most of it.

I hate Tottenham Hotspur.

The way that the manager affected a more Cockney accent when he joined them.

The lairy, arrogant supporters.

The way we were beaten today by a player signed just after the transfer deadline.

I hate them.

i use the word jealousy because we all know as do they, that we are a genuine big club with real history and heritage.

But it can all turn on its head, if they dont make top four this year will VDV stay? Will Gareth Bale be able to resist going Real Madrid, will Modric stay?

I don't hate them. I just think the London factor makes them think they are bigger then what they actually are.

Going somewhat off-topic here, but this comment struck a chord for a more general reason.

I've just finished watching the Super League Grand Final and one of the things that struck me most was the respect with which the officials were treated by both the players and the commentators. With about 15 minutes to go, St Helens, already trailing by about 16 points, were starting to lose their composure. A decision that could have gone either way was given against them and one of their players responded to the referee in a way more usually seen in football: shouting and gesticulating wildly with his arm. Referee blows up, calls captain and player concerned to him and admonishes him (he's lucky it was a final otherwise he'd probably have been sin-binned) while the commentators reinforced the need to respect officials.

There were plenty of small in-game decisions that could have been called the other way and could have been analysed ad nauseum were the commentators that way inclined (this was on Sky remember) but they didn't, the emphasis was on the game, the players remaining professional and what they did or didn't do.

Football could learn SO much from other sports, but it doesn't and that's a massive indicator for me of the "big I am" culture that surrounds the game in this country at the present time. And I'm pretty much bored with it.

We lost today by two goals to a club who were clearly allowed to sign a player outside of the transfer window. Meh. Par for the course for a game that's disappearing up its own arse.

Great thread this...
I thought I was the only one who had this irrational hatred of a club that has so little relevance to us up here in the midlands.

I'm sure its not a jealousy thing though, I dislike Man U and Chelsea (and Liverpool back in the day) because of envy - but I don't hate them the way I hate Spurs.

I hate the noses - understandably - as our local rivals.

Its not a London thing - I've never minded Arsenal, despite them being more successful than us over the past 40 years.

So I must admit its pretty hard to explain, but I think it started for me when, in the days before the internet, when you'd get your daily football gossip fix from one of the tabloid papers, Tottingham would only have to win a fucking corner to get a back page headline.

Plus an un-natural percentage of their fans wear flat caps. Most cnutish behaviour.

And I fucking hate Chas and Dave.

To me it started in 1981, the Spurs V Man City FA Cup final.  There were neutrals giving such stupid reasons why they wanted Spurs to win, there was the stupid Chas & Dave (as mentioned above) song, "in de cup for dottingham", and the way the media wanked over Ricky Villa's goal, while forgetting a far more spectacular volleyed goal for Man City.

Then there was their stupid fucking way of going "we must win the cup this year, it's a 1 year", followed the next year by"it's a 2 year...", and I would be thinking, "why don't you just fuck off!!!"

I don't hate Spurzz at all, as most of my family are Spurzzz fans, so don't buy the crap that all Spurzzz fans are arrogant, c*$ts, or whatever you think they are. Not all Villa fans are shining examples of the good citizens either.

Like all big teams they think they are better than they are, deserve to be winning things when they are not (maybe we should read some of our own comments about our own team).

They are hyped up because they are in London and that's about it.

There are far more other teams that I dislike a great deal more. Spurzzz haven't really done anything to make me dislike them, or even really care about them one way or another. They are just another team.

Yeah, thats the kind of thing I mean.

If Ricky Villa took a shit you could be sure The Sun would have an 8-photo step-by-step photographic sequence of it the next day.
