Wy don't we do something right out of left field and call him Gerard?

I believe that this is due to the massive difference in pronunciation between the French and Brummy versions.
In French, the name Gerard Houllier is quite sonorous, and pleasant sounding. Jerud Oo-Lee-oy does not have quite the same ring.

I'm gonna call him M'sieur 'oullier, and nothing any vote says will change my mind.

Maybe we should try that in our chants:

"Monsieur - gis a wave! Monsieur Monsieur gis a wave!"

BTW I see Collymore has changed his tune:

Probably didn't want to lose the gig in the programme.

In deference to my favourite old sitcom I'm going to call him Hotlips Houllier.

It makes me think of laziness. And a lack of respect for our manager's proper name.
Oi, I'll have you know there's nothing wrong with shortening the name Gerard.

Indeed, if that's what the person wants!
