Late Seventies, we always got turned over by Middlesbrough - despite the fact that we were miles better than them.

Broke the run without a win (7 games ?) in the crucial final home game of the Championship season.

There was definitely a fear of the bogey team doing us again at the time.

It occurred to me on Saturday that Bolton were a bit of an thorn in the side for a period in the mid-late 90's. I remember one game in particular where we battered them for pretty much 90 minutes and they won through a Gary Speed penalty. That must have been under Gregory.

Their keeper (dont fancy tryna spell his name!) made save of the season from a Gary Cahill shot from about 30 yards. Werent a penalty and there 500 odd fans joined our poor attendance and diddnt sing all game either, one of the worst games iv ever been to. Think it might have been o'neills 1st season or o'drearys last. Cant quite remember that bit

I was thinking of 2002/03 when we lost to a Ricketts penalty, not a Speed one. But I was probably annoyed just as much by the later one.

I remember in the 80s Notts Co been a bit of a bogey side, then we finally stuck 6 past them in a cup game IIRC.

Norwich away rarely makes me think of a Villa win.

We certainly had some beatings at the hands of Notts County. I remember a shock opening day defeat, plus 4-1 and 5-2 thrashings at Meadow Lane. We won a FA Cup tie there 6-0 on a Wednesday night, then went back there on the Saturday and lost 1-0 in the league.

We always seemed to get out muscled by Wimbledon, but clearly remember a Sid Cowans and Tony Daley inspired victory at The Plough, despite the bullying tactics of Wise, Jones, Fashanu & Co. Football was definitely the winner that day.

I checked our record against Notts Co, being a sad git. We lost both league games 1-0 in 81/82, but did win 6-0 away in the FAC3.

In 82/83 we lost 4-1 away and won the return 2-0. We lost in the LC 2nd round 1-2 (H) and 0-1 (A).

83/84 we lost 5-2 (A) and won 3-1 (H).

A pretty poor return considering how bad they were and we were Champions of England and Europe.
I think we've only played them once since then in the cup in the late 90s. Where we won the replay at VP 3-0 after a 0-0. IIRC.

Edited to add, I forgot until just they were in the top flight once more in 91/92, we won 1-0 home and drew 0-0 away.

I hated Filbert Street so badly and we didnt win there for about 25 years

We had a poor record against Luton for a few years,and being at school in Luton at the time didnt help.

Man Yoo are our bogey team and whilst we may have the theatre of doom bogey off our back last season we still havent beaten them at home in the league since August 1995 a truly woeful state of affairs.

Stoke aren't doing us many favours at the moment so they're creeping up on the rails but there's a few grounds where we are usually crap including St James, COMS and Stamford Bridge.
