Bogey teams

Who have been our traditional bogey teams over the years then?
Man Utd, Birmingham, Newcastle and Leicester have at some point  done really well against us in   my supporting life-time i i reckon (since 1988). I think before 1992 we must have had major issues with QPR as our head-to-head record with them before our first Premiership meeting  (i watched this match the other night) was heavily stacked in their favour.
Stoke have only beaten us once more than we have them since they've been promoted although the 2-2 draw still sticks  in the mind for all the wrong reasons.

We never used to be able to beat Wimbledon, until we thrashed them 7-1.

And teams we always seem to do well against are:

Albion, Spurs, Everton and we haven't faired badly against Chelsea.

Southampton always did well against us when Le Tissier was at his peak. No coincidence that we started to beat them when his form drifted away.

Leicester are the main ones. We've never beaten Wigan at home in the league.

We have a crap record against Man City, but that can no longer be counted as a bogey side thing, as they're expected to beat us now.

We can probably count Rapid Vienna now too and Celta Vigo.

At home, we are Chelsea's bogey side though.

Even though we've got shite records against United, Liverpool and Arsenal, I wouldn't class those as bogey teams since they're generally a class apart from us and have been for a while (Liverpool is now debateable, but never used to be).

The one that springs to mind first for me right now is Man City, particularly at the COM. I can only remember beating them there once and that was when Shaun Maloney scored.

Teams I remember us not having a particularly good record against: Leicester (obviously), Boro, Palace, Coventry, Oldham and Southampton. Leeds were always a tricky opponent too.

After Hitler invaded Poland we didn't beat Spurszz again until August 1962. Twenty-four games played (including two in the FA Cup), nineteen defeats, five draws. And we sold our best player to them.

Agree with everyone whose said Wimbledon.  At one stage in the early 90s we seemed to draw them every year in the Cup - at home as well.

Now we've won at Old Trafford, it would be good to finally beat Man Utd at home.

Around the early 80s it was Notts County. Although we did once thump them 6-0 away in the Cup in  night game after the game had been postponed - and the pools panel predicted a home win. Nice. Geddis hat-trick I think, or was it Donovan?

Wimbledon for me. They derailed out title bid with that 3-0 win at Villa Park in 1990 and I think they knocked us out the cup about 3 times in 5 years. I remember Vinnie Jones celebrating in front of us at the lovely Selhurst Park after they did us on penalties. After the game I walked past his sponsored BMW in the car park- obviously no player car park at Selhurst!- I was tempted to do something to it but with his name plastered all over it I'm sure other people saved me the trouble.

Liverpool at Villa Park has been dire the past decade.

I remember as a kid in the 1990s hating Robbie Fowler with a passion for the way he always scored against us, always.

Leicester city at that time were a right pain in the ass too.

Our record against Newcastle is poor. Especially at St James'.

When we won there last season, it was our first victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage since 1971, when Chico Hamilton and Pat McMahon scored the goals for us.

We did beat them once at Loftus Road though.

It occurred to me on Saturday that Bolton were a bit of an thorn in the side for a period in the mid-late 90's. I remember one game in particular where we battered them for pretty much 90 minutes and they won through a Gary Speed penalty. That must have been under Gregory.
