Viera was awful against the scum. His legs have gone and if Mancini cannot see that he is even a worse manager than i suspected he was. Milner in the middle of the park is twice the player. I think this is going to eventually affect his England chances and that is when even he might have to rethink his position at Man City .....

I just don't agree, Maz. Several top saves the other night which didn't hint at any loss of reflexes.

I think he's fine at present, I meant him deciding whether he thinks his body is up to another 12 months.

He saves well when the ball is fired straight at him. I said he's a great shot stopper.
But too much goes past him where a younger keeper will get to them and I dont like him being rooted to his goal line. It puts a lot of pressure on our defence.

I'm very fond of him, he's a top bloke and a good keeper, but let's not pretend he's a top keeper any more and we need one.
Anyway, disagree all you like, its your prerogative, but he'll have to be replaced soon. That's just the way it is. He can't go on forever and its a position I definitely think we can improve.

There are times when I look at Friedel and I think that there's no better keeper to have between Villa's sticks. And then you see games like Blackburn away, with his awful handling of Pedersen's opener. Granted, that's one mistake and every keeper has his dodgy times but just because he's knocking on I don't see any reason to dispense with him. I think we all know Guzan's never going to be the replacement so let's have a butchers at Westwood or Joe Lewis, play them in pre-season to see how they get on and gradually ease Big Brad out of the firing line. Too many teams just replace their keepers straight away with no thought to how they're going to command their defence and I would be loathe to just kick Friedel out because of his age.

Well he was player of the tournament at the Under-17 European Championships, so he must have something about him.

Yeah I just read that, great news and he is 6 foot 4 so hopefully will command his area and be the next Van Der Sar! Nice one Villa.

The difference between this season and last is that - if we lose a key player - I have confidence that the manager can replace him.
Bingo.

Its not just because of his age. It's because its one of several positions I think we can improve on.

I think we will be in for Milner in the summer whatever happens. Milner, Bradley, Makoun looks younger, more mobile and much better quality than Petrov and Reo Coker. Milner will come back if he thinks he is going to miss out on playing in the England side in his best position. There is a wide open opportunity to cement a place as a central midfielder, and he is pissing his career away playing wide for City, and someone needs to tell him so. Truth is Chelsea, United and Arsenal are still closer to winning the league a billion pounds later for City.

I don't think he'll leave City next summer at all. Milner strikes me as a player that doesn't take his decisions lightly and I'd be surprised if he threw his toys out of the pram virtually straight away. Yes, you could argue that his England career might be a major consideration but it's nowhere near as important to most players as Champions League football and if City qualify I'd assume Milner would be happy to be a part of it no matter how little playing time he gets. Try next January.

Depends if they force him out or not. They have form for discarded players recently, let's face it. He may want to try his hand at Champions league football, if they get it, but they'll be recycling players again and if he's not going to play, what's the point in sticking around?
He needs to go to a club that will play him in the middle and he knows we'll do that.

If Houllier wants him of course. He might not.
Although I've a feeling his work ethic, ability and versatility would strike several chords with Houllier.

I agree it's a possibility and I think if we got a player like Milner back we'd certainly be having a serious tilt at CL football next season. But it's heart ruling head, I fear, based on an excellent transfer window and a welcome surge of optimism around VP right now.

Fuck Milner. He left us and people still salivate over him.

With Makoun, Delph and Bradley gradually displacing NRC and Petrov in the next few months and Bannan and Gardner not far behind, the centre of midfield is not a position we need to worry about.

Milner; worse than Barry IMO (in how he left us, not ability). Let him rot there.
