Funny to listen to all the post transfer deadline day analysis and to hear that it is Spurs fans ringing in who are the most dissatisfied. After all the big transfers they have conducted over the last couple of seasons too. I think they've just realised that if take Bale (injured and probably off in the summer) and Van Der Vaart out of that team, it doesn't actually amount to that much...

Did Warnock go to Liverpool on loan?

No he's still here, moaning.
DSalifou still here too with no squad number now?

Interesting transfer window -  it's the first where I see so many of the top transfers involving a player handing in a transfer request. While the previous ones were dominated by players hanging on not wishing to put in a transfer request and getting an extra milion or two of loyalty bonuses, this time it was completely opposite. I wonder what changed the trend?

By the way, how does this -

Quote
"Carroll, whose fee broke the record paid for a British player, said: “I’m gutted to be leaving my hometown club, I was told to go. I didn’t want to leave that’s why I signed a five-year deal [with Newcastle in October]. I was pushed out of the door.”"
http://thesoccerroom.com/?p=22058

bond with this:

Quote
"Their first approach of £30million was knocked back by the Magpies and although they stalled on the improved offer, the club decided to accept the second bid after the England international put in a transfer request."

I think that the extra million or two loyalty bonus works out at far less than the increase in wages spread over a 4 year contract.  That and also, who's to say that the likes of Carroll might be moved on in 2 years time meaning even more money in his pocket.

Spurs had a really, really bad transfer window. Knocked back by Forlan, Llorente, Christina Aguilera, Aunty Carol, Charlie Adam and....Phil Neville.

As somebody pointed out, their squad is now smaller than it was at the start of the window.

They haven't a cat in hell's chance of making fourth now.

Apparently Richard Keys phoned up Kenny Dalglish last night regarding the Andy Carroll buy.

"You know that British transfer record, did you smash it?"

Lock it in now...........

Liverpool surely didn't bid £10m for Adam?

What, you think they may have bid too much, Liverpool don't usually..... oh hang on.

I read somewhere that Adam scored more in the Championship than Carroll last season, can't be arsed to look it up, but if true, it shows what a balls up Dogleash has made of this window.

For an online emotional rollercoaster ride, take a look at this thread from a Toon forum yesterday.

It's 59 pages long, and the layout will make your eyes hurt a bit, but you have to feel sorry for the poor bastards.

Andy Carroll in The Times, November 27, 2010:

"This is my home, this is what I want to be doing, the club I want to play for, the shirt I want to wear. That's it, 100 per cent. I've just signed a five-year contract and as it stands, I want to be here for ever. Newcastle is my team."

Yes Andrew. Pack yourself a little bag, there's a private jet at the airport.

Living in London, this quote from the Newcastle board highlights more than a footballers value...

"Its like somebody offering you 6 times what your house is worth, you love the house, you love the area and your neighbours, but £1,000,000 is an offer that you simply would not turn down, and I defy anybody in the situation I have mentioned to say otherwise"

You wouldn't get a house down here for £160,000.

You could get four houses in Newcastle for £160,000.

With a sheet of plywood over the upstairs window, thrown in.

Well, as they say in these parts, tidy lad, nice bit of work.  I'm well satisfied with the shape and direction of the squad, we've signed sensible players, and, in light of yesterdays ridiculous displays, at sensible prices.  It would have been nice to have shipped Warnock and Beye out but I'm not losing any sleep.  Compared to how I felt at Christmas I am a new man.

Is this the transfer window that has seen most loan moves? It is something I expect to see more of in January next year, an inteeligent solution to the problems of over inflated trnsfer fees.

The new UEFA financial rules come into effect in the summer. Loaning a player in this window and selling in the summer has a potential beneficial effect. i.e. a profit made on a sale in July will count as profit under the new rules without any corresponding cost.
