Who can you say is better though?

It's a toss up though. Everyone has opinions.

Torres is up there on a equal level.

David Villa, Ibrahimovic , Aguero, Messi

The wonderful view of opinions as I agree with your list there except for the zlatan. I wouldnt say he was better than Torres.
I was undecisive about him but he can be unplayable on his day but he can also be rubbish
Yeah I see your point. I got carried away saying he was THE best. Even still, I'd be gutted seeing him out and Carroll in.
I agree on paper its not a good swop but when you factor in that Torres wanted to leave and for the money they got for him and £20/£25m more they have got Suarez, Carroll and Adam I dont think its that bad a deal

It's all opinion but to my eyes it's getting rid of a player the calibre of Fernando Torres and replacing him with Marlon Harewood, but one that costs about seven times as much.

Can't believe anybody thinks Carroll is worth £35m.  He may have potential, but he has a crap temperament.  He is a risk.

Torres or Carroll in your team? No contest.  "Shows ambition" bollux

Let nobody fool themselves, Torres is a fantastic player who, with better players around him, will cause mayhem with Chelsea. £50m? Well, he's more worth £50m than Carroll is £35m, put it that way.

Nobody has really argued to the contrary, have they?

Carroll - half a season in the top flight, scored some goals in the championship, proven mentalist with past form for breaking team mate's jaws and slapping his Mrs about - 35 million pounds.

Torres - world cup winner, proven over several years in two top flight leagues, amongst best strikers in Europe, would walk into almost every side in the world - 50 million pounds.

If Carroll is worth 35m, Torres must be worth at least 150m.

Incidentally, Newcastle offered Carroll to West Ham for 1m in 2009

sold torres for 48m, bought him for 30m, the balance being 18! Where did they get the rest of the dough from?

Carroll's better than a lot of people here are making out, but he is not worth £35m of anyone's money.  These scousers are deluded if they think they've got the better end of this deal.

£35m for Carroll is making £50m for Torres look downright reasonable if not a steal.

I would.

It's not just coincidence that the team that has Ibrahimovic in has won the league title every season since 2004 (Calciopoli notwithstanding) across five different clubs whereas Torres' domestic honours stand at one second division title with Atletico.

Equally you could of put Torres into that barcelona and inter team and he'd of had champoinship medals too. The team was great not just ibrahimovic.

But that's a great stat dave that I didnt know.

The more i think about it, the more Carroll seems to actually BE Harewood. Big centre-forward, supposed to be good in the air, very good Championship record, hat-trick against Villa while playing at home...wonder if we'll sign him eventually?

Frankly what's it making Bent look like?

FFS, apparently our window has been comparable to Blues', according to Motson. Ridiculous.

You could probably put any of us into the Barcelona team and they'd still win things.

Hasn't Torres scored something like 65 goals in 100 league game for the dippers? That's top class by any standard.

John Motson knows nothing and is completely out of touch with modern day football. He is the David Pleat of professional commentators...
