Personally, I think Bale's transformation from shit left back to excellent left winger is the thing that made Spurs from also rans into top four contenders. Moreover, any old fool could tell you a left back who attacks well but doesn't defend well might be best sampled on the left wing. That coupled with a shit Liverpool gave them 4th place.

Now yes. Last season Bale coming through was a huge part of their run to the top 4. Modric was out for a long time with a broken foot.

I think that's a little harsh on the introduction and success of Van Der Vaart and the growth of Modric in the league. I think they're a little more than solely reliant on Bale.

Knowing Mike Ashley's love of money,id be tempted to make a bid for their lb Enrique, and even throw in Warnock as part of the deal.

"Update from The Ricoh Arena is that Kieren Westwood has agreed to stay with Coventry City for the rest of the season."

According to someone on BBC via Twitter

If he's keen to stay there maybe even offer them £1m for him, and then loan him straight back for the rest of the season.

The Guardian says that Lerner told W Henry that we have no intention of selling Young in this transfer window. Let that be the end of it, please.

Let's just hoe Ash doesn't hand a transfer request in.

No Chairman can turn his back on one of those easily.

I'd be very disappointed in Ash if I thought he was even considering leaving us for Lplop. It's a sideways move at the moment with the prospect of another managerial change in the summer. If you consider that their recent team has been based around two players, one of which is leaving and the other who is on the decline, then apart from the cash I can't see what the appeal would be.
If he does want to leave, we should insist that it be in the summer but I suspect he might just surprise us. Out of the other clubs in the PL who could attract him, I think that Manure would be the only realistic option for him if he wants to fit into a team which is playing CL. He'd only get a handful of games if he played for either Spurs or Citeh and I don't think he'd get regular starts for Chelsea or Arse.
He clearly likes it at Villa and hopefully will buy into Houllier's plan and learn from Milner's mistake!

If they are willing to shell out 30 million on Carrol, then Young is a minimum of 25 if thye want him today. As it is, I cannot see Torres completing in time for the other deals to happen.

Ive rated Carroll for a while now but that's a hell of a lot of money.
If I was Newcastle though, I'd insist on starting there in any negotiations.
He's their new hero after all.

We should have tried to nab him last year.
A borderling mentalist but if he keeps his head together he'll score shitloads of goals in the league.
I really hope he doesnt go to poxy Spurs.

Madness, I agree. A player with half a decent season in the prem and one in the Championship. Both very average leagues and now he is worth the sort of money paid for the likes of David Villa....

I think torres will go through, and Adam and warnock will join suarez at anfield- funny how Bruce queried a deal for bent could be done in just 2 days, when every tranfer window we get deals here there and everywhere going through in just hours.

Blackpool bid for andy Reid suggests Adam will go.Was interested to see kendricks Twitter saying no clause for newcastle to buy Ireland as villa want him back in the summer for a fresh start.

I thought he'd be worth about £10m. I actually don't know why Newcastle would turn down that sort of money.

I think he will get found out a bit Maz. Good player yes - but not 30 million forward - think he will average 15 or so a season, but also think he will become quite injury prone and get into enough trouble off the pitch to make him damaged goods. Best place for him is United.

No chance Ash will go Liverpool today, we need to have a good run now and hope Gerrard can persuade him to sign a contract.

Timothy Abraham has casually thrown Samba's name into the mix. Can't see it happening today myself.
