I'm sure that when Blues agreed a fee for Larsson, it was 1m. I doubt any deal we do with them will value him at any more.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Newcastle agreed £500,000, but it fell through due to his wage demands.

Davies alway did well when he had a solid centre back with him (Laursen) so I think he'll click well with Johnson.

Just bad luck for Davies that he was another one who fell foul of the Villa hating madman.

Still can't see it happening Maz. He will getter better money waiting till the summer, and will have a fight on to get in the team. Fair play to the lad if he is up for the fight to do so though, and squad wise I think he would be a good addition. Look at the way Houllier is rotating and has publicly stated he will keep doing so. It means you need good players to make up that squad. Would not be shocked to see him come and play more centrally either, if he does sign.

According to a few folks behind the scenes, its Blose trying to push this, not us. Houllier isnt sure if Larsson would be any good to us and Blose are trying to save money by offering a player they know is off in the summer anyway. Also, Davies would prefer to go to Leicester but we'd prefer a permanent deal for him rather than a loan.

Not sure how accurate all that is but it makes sense to me.

For myself, I'd prefer Larsson to nothing but I'd rather buy a better player in the summer than have Larsson on the payroll for 3 or 4 years, doing very little.
But of course, if he comes I will support him 100% and he's not without his plus points.

You're my favourite, Mazrim.

Equal parts passion and reason, you always end up talking sense in the end (and usually before the end).

I'm not taking the piss, by the way. But if you don't finger me then I'll edit my post and tell Everall you're a crap cuddle.

Please tell me you're a buxom lass of questionable virtue.

Davies got injured was out for months and by the time he was fit had three more reliable centre halves in front of him. Houllier had every chance to pick him if he wanted but came to the same conclusion as his predecessor.

I think Houllier doesn't want him as he realises Clark is a better choice as centre back number 4.

I think O'Neill just froze him out in the same way he did with Beye, Sidwell and Reo Coker.

O'Neill had his 11 favourites and everybody else was persona non grata.

chelski have come in for torres and he wants to go (ssn) no worries no concern to the villa......i really hope this does not happen for the simple reason is that liverpool will come sniffing for young.  i can see it happenin g

I think that's partly true.  If a player/players were in and doing well, with the side winning, they kept the shirt.  That's why Cuellar stayed at RB and Davies couldn't get past Collins and Dunne.  Very old school, but it does have it's merits as evidenced by the results under him.

As it goes I prefer a bit of rotation as it keeps the squad players involved and happy, plus match sharp for when they are needed.  Just as long as the manager knows his best team and isn't afraid to play it more often than not!

We are paying Davies too much for a 4th choice centre back and he's less reliable than the those in front of him. I'm sure he was one of the ones that the club had in my mind when they talked about trimming the wage bill but we couldn't shift him in the summer.

I reckon Houllier might turn out to be the polar opposite and. quite rightly, rotate the squad.
No good paying players £50k + pw to virtually never play, especially if you were the manager who signed them in the first place.

I'd have had no problem with O'Neill to the same extent if he was ostracizing players who he'd inherited, but he chucked players over his shoulder who he'd signed and paid excessive wages for.

All very well Chris, but hadn't O'Neill shunned him prior to the wages situation?

They'd need to fork out for a new centre forward first

Shunned isn't the right word.  He had two other CBs in and playing well, so didn't pick him.

Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports News that striker Fernando Torres has asked Liverpool to listen to Chelsea's offer, with the Anfield outfit having rejected a £35million bid for his services.
