How ironic that we are talking about signing Adam when we have a midfielder like Ireland (who is a nutcase) on our books who is an infinitely better player but can't be bothered to play for us!

It is madness achilles. On the Downing note, if Liverpool really want to give us 15 million, he is never going to be worth that kind of money so we should sell IMO.

Exactly. We need an Ireland type player but one that isn't a basket case. It makes the whole situation the more farcical. If only someone would give him the kick up the hole he needs to crack on and be the playmaker he can be and the one we are crying out for we wouldn't need someone like Adam.

I really like Downing, think he's a very decent Premier League player.

But if Ashley signs and if we're not in Europe next year we might as well let him go, because for the money we can (supposedly) get for him we could sign someone who suits the system more.

Otherwise he'll lose his place. As I see a genuine number 10 player coming in and it being Bent with 3 of the new man, Ash, Marc, Gabby and Downing in behind.

Villa defender in line for shock Birmingham switch

Curtis Davies could be the next Aston Villa player to make the move across the city to sign for Birmingham.

The £12million centre-half, who is on loan at Leicester, has been told he won’t be wanted back at Villa as boss Gerard Houllier looks to get his £40,000 a week wages off the club’s bill.

He admitted yesterday on his Twitter page: “I don’t know where I will be playing at the end of this window, but most likely not at Villa.”

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is watching the situation after confirmation that he’s lost defender Scott Dann for the rest of the season following an operation on a serious hamstring injury.

Leicester want Davies, 25, to stay until the summer to support their promotion bid.

Boss Sven Goran Eriksson admitted: “I have spoken to him, but he wants to see if there are options in the Premier League.”

the only reason I'd sell Downing is if GH really wants to move to a more compact playing system that might not require having so many wingers on the books. Otherwise I'd rather not assist our direct rivals in any way.

Hope it comes off. He is the second worst centre back I can recall playing for us. Luckily Blues already have number one at left back too.

If Davies has to go it'll be a shame, but if he's going to be sold you can't sell him to the Neanderthals especially being a relegation rival too. He'd vastly improve their defence.
